The Broadmoor PPIHC takes place on a 12.42 mile (19.99 km) public toll road boasting 156 turns, while competitors climb 4,720 ft. (1,440 m.) from the 9,390 ft. (2,862 m.) Start Line at Mile 7 marker on the Pikes Peak Highway to the 14,115 ft. (4,300 m) Finish Line at the mountain’s summit.

Truly incredible performance for first timer on Pikes Peak.And Dumas never went under 8:50 mark in all years he raced with Norma on Pikes Peak.And his was 4 wheel-drive. So hats off and deep bow to Simone for such performance. Now i'm thinking,if he didn't experience problems,he'd be real close or even faster than Loeb's time on his very first outing on Pikes Peak.With that in mind,i believe that next year he'll be faster than this.Saw him enough times in action so i know what i'm talking about.

+bossolo Brand new WRC car costs around 550000 euro.Brand new FA30 somewhere between 700000 and 800000 euros.Just wanted to point that out,given how expensive both are and there are also unrestricted WRC cars competing on hillclimb events.

@@hillclimbracingfan5821 mmm..ok! i would just be curious to see a fa30 at pp, i remember it as a very stable and glued veichle in high speed large turns, also with faggioli in the past. i follow some hillclimb in italy since few years so i never see merli driving radical or picchio to tell the difference, but in the last times he's moving badass! enough to imagine him at pp, even knowing it's not in his plan probably

Michael Littlejohn he's an awesome and well experienced hill climb driver, shame for the lack of grip and traction on the slower corners, or he would've been much, much closer to the electric VW. If norma can fix that, I expect a 8 minute breaker next year 👊

+Tommaso Martinelli He did a lot better than Dumas when he raced with 4 wheel-drive Norma.Faggioli went 20 seconds faster with rear wheel-drive Norma than Dumas best run with 4 wheel-drive Norma on his 3rd or 4th outing with that car.If that doesn't show Faggioli is better hillclimb driver then i don't know what does.

non nascondo che appena ho visto i tempi mi è sembrato crollare addosso quel castello per aria su cui lo avevo visto incoronare al primo posto col record di loeb abbattuto, come credo a molti piaceva immaginarlo anche perché la cosa comunque non era impossibile. quanto sarebbe stata eroica e leggendaria un'apparizione del genere, una di quelle che non necessitano la seconda volta. scena che avremmo magari visto fino all'anno prima, col navigato dumas sulla stessa auto sebbene a trazione integrale. sarebbe stato un oro anche senza record. GONNNG. dopo questa apparente delusione inizi ad accorgerti di quale impresa ha realmente compiuto il toscanaccio, sia considerando certe circostanze e situazioni sia in maniera assoluta. se il tempo è relativo, ha vinto faggioli. se non lo è ha vinto comunque. all'anno prossimo gente

Norma con un rapporto peso potenza molto più favorevole della VW. Grande Dumas che si è adattato ad un tipo di vettura completamente diverse. Bravi entrambi ovviamente!

The onboard video shows clearly that the setup of the car is not optimal, it seems to handle really rough and edgy. Beating old records as a first timer on the track with such a poor setup shows how much faster his times can get, the car shows it has enough power to do so.

+dieselmupke I read in article about Faggioli's run and it was mentioned that power output was lowered in favor of reliability since they had lots of problems on practice and qualifying sessions.With that in mind,and the fact he wrestled with car due to bad setup and still demolished 2 records just says what incredible performance this is.Maximum output of his Norma is 800 horsepower.If there were no problems at all and setup was right and all power output was on the max,i bet he'd demolish Loeb's record in his very first attempt.

Simone Faggioli may be dominating hill climbs left and right in Europe but Pikes Peak is a different beast! Good run nevertheless: currently the 3rd best overall time, 2nd best petrol car and best time by a car that isn't being supported by a big car company. Better luck and performance next year...

PrimiusLovin, bit of ignorant comment. For being a first timer he did amazing. Even Romain Dumas was not faster last time with the same car. And he had already some previous experience. Plus Simone mentioned couple minor issues. And as rockn roll mentioned, the European type of cars are not the best thing for that large number of hairpins. In the fast corners it is hard to beat though. Still, americans are nowhere to see on their home ground. Plus support of a large company such as VW is priceless. Car of Romain Dumas have countless tricks borrowed from Porsche 919.

Of course he won't dominate in his first time in Pikes against multiple winner Dumas who has a damn factory support behind him...yet he did a 8:37 time which would've been way more than enough to win for the past years 2014-17 and that is damn impressive! Still he did an amazing job, compliments to him and the team!

In the end, the 1100kg/~700hp VW beat the ~700kg/800hp Norma. Both Formula cars, both on slick tires, etc. If you don't see anything wrong with that, nobody can help you. And no, I don't believe it was Simone's fault. His two practice times were both within fractions of a second of each other - both 3,27,xx. So I think he got the maximum out of the car. The car really just seemed to suck. Sorry.

Luca M guarda quella Volkswagen in uscita di curva.... una fionda, trazione mostruosa. Faggioli ha fatto a cazzotti con la norma per quasi metá percorso, e nonostante tutto ha sbriciolato 2 record. É un fenomeno nelle corse su strada, c'é poco da dire.
