Hey Simone, super excited for you to have found a new hobby! Just a word of warning, a family member of mine got into stained glass not to long ago, and between the lead in the solder and the myriad of other chemicals and fumes that come with working in metal and glass, she suffered from some pretty rough, pretty permanent nerve and mood changes. For stained glass projects, the solution for load-bearing parts (usually for hanging it) is to solder in wire, since the copper foil is thin and easily broken, and solder does little to help that under high stress. Get some thick copper wire, like from romex/house wiring, and solder that around the outside of the elements that seem to split apart. it'll help it hold together really reliably. :D

As long as it's not from Ea-Nasir

There is a flat 'wire' we sometimes use for such things. It's more like a VERY thick tape, and is similar to the stuff Tiffany used when he developed the copper/lead soldering technique for stained glass.

Also, lead free solder is a bit stiffer, a little less prone to bend failure, and obviously safer for objects that will be handled regularly.

Simone Giertz is a persone that is able to display without taboo what it is to be an engineer in general. Do something fancy, be hyped, spend a long time on it, realize bad choices, be frustrated a minute until motivation comes back, work smarter, realize something breaks, repair it by making an initially unwanted choice, retry, it breaks again, then all stages of grief, then motivation again to repair and finish it, then joy, but most importantly, wait until monday.

GrandmaCore defintiely needs to be a thing, especially if it involves stained glass. This thing looks fantastic, it's functional art. I would also like to vote that "Queefing with Confidence" should be a new channel slogan. 😂 Fun project and video! Thanks for sharing!

can't believe I had to scroll this far to find somebody talking about "queefing with confidence"😅

if it's breaking at the solder your solder might be too soft, i don't know about making stained glass but in jewelry making you can get hard solders that will hold up better (the reason i'm not sure with stained glass is that the harder the solder the higher its melting point which could crack the glass)

Me, watching Simone make the wooden base: "Wow, that came out nice!" - Simone three minutes later in the video: "The base is ugly". Me: "Noooo!"

started the video and went "oh boy somethings gonna break let's see how this turns out" always excited to see how you work around difficulties in production!

It was a crazy idea. I like how Simone stuck with it and got it working. I also like the chair with the dog house underneath and the steps and bed area for the dog. Brilliant.

I understand how it feels to be burned out by the self-imposed challenges of personal projects. Yours was amazing, you are trully a great craftswoman. Thanks for the video.

Despite the project setbacks, I love how a good hobby can make someone seem so free. :) Keeping doing stained glass projects!

You're so inventive and innovative! I mean who else would even think up such a cool idea?! Very inspirational!

The "it broke again!" Pure rage, 5 minutes later, calmly problem solving by compromising your original aesthetic was so relatable ❤. I feel seen😊

"A step backwards is still a step, and my fitness tracker will still count it towards my daily goal." "And I was back to queefing with confidence." "How's she so smooth? Maybe she's born with it, maybe she's a river rock." - Simone Giertz, 2023

Simone’s videos bring me so much inspiration. I feel like I’m watching a parallel to what my life could have been if it had worked out differently, and weirdly it makes me feel really fulfilled vicariously! With her and Laura I feel like I have carved out a special space for some truly creative makers in my life again.

I absolutely feel deciding to just give up because the project sucks and then realizing that it doesn't suck and giving it another try. Also wow, this video came out unexpectedly fast after the last one! And it's a robot project! I shamelessly used it to cheer myself up after experiencing a setback myself.

We need a book of Simone's motivational quotes Also I wonder if some kind of metal brace around the outer edge of the troubled part would hold it together, instead of just the solder alone. Replacing the glass part was a good compromise though. Stained glass is cool!
@gaerekxenos Жыл бұрын
Yeah, a brace might have worked. Seems like it was constantly breaking along that part since there was a clear crack to break along (the solder and glass intersection) so, if the section was a solid piece of glass instead it might not have broken quite as easily. That particular part was probably a section where more pressure was applied due to the motion and rotation of everything else

Of all the important takeaways from Simone's perseverance, taking a break when frustrated is the one i want to remember personally. Coming back rested is a game changer.

I’m just laughing at how Simone was so careful to not hurt herself during the ENTIRE process of this build to only burn herself on a candle in the ending shot 😂😂😂

Beautiful work. I wonder if soldering a wire around the edge of that glass piece that came apart might reinforce it enough to work. In any case the glued on reinforcement is a perfectly acceptable solution. Keep up the great work Simone

Came here to say this too. Wire reinforcement around the outside to bind the small pieces together.
