I remember reading about a Chinese Ambassador (KMT Govt) of Austria issuing visas to endangered Jewish people so that they could escape to China. Maybe the Jews in China mentioned include some of those exiles. That Ambassador was posthumously honoured by the Israeli Government as "Righteous Among Nations."

Pan Jun Shun (hid a Ukrainian Jewish girl during WWII) and Feng-Shan Ho (provided more than 3,000 visas to Jews in need during his tenure as ambassador of ROC to Vienna in 1938)

@@SamsonCheung Thanks. Ho Feng-Shan was extra courageous because he was acting against the wishes of his immediate superior who worried about reactions from the Nazi regime. Ho was even "suspected" of selling visas though he was thoroughly cleared of that smear on his good name after an investigation by KMT officials. He never mentioned any of his bravery in issuing of visas even to his family. Only a comment about how he confronted the Gestapo at gunpoint to protect a Jewish friend in his obituary alerted Jews whose ancestors were saved by his heroic deeds. Those grateful Jewish people pushed for Ho to be fully recognized and honoured. One sour note was the way the CCP tried to muscle in and claim Dr Ho as their diplomat although the doctor never represented the Communist and left for Taiwan with the Nationalist Government in 1949. The CCP even tried to ban the Taiwan Representative from attending when a plague was installed in Vienna to commemorate Dr Ho's humanitarian act. That shameless "PR" did not escape the condemnation of the Yad Vashem (World Holocaust Remembrance Centre) that awarded the honour.

Michael Blumenthal, the US Secretary of Treasury under Carter administration, was a Germany born Jewish boy. His family seek refuge in Shanghai during WWII and he was one of those who received aid from the Sassoon family. Michael Blumenthal can speak fluent Shanghainese and was the first US cabinet member invited to China in 1979.

戰時國民黨收回上海租界，和平以後沙遜家族已經覺得勢息唔對。但係不動產會越賣越賤，所以佢地只能暗中撤資。嘉道理家族到咗四八年先知道沙遜家族正在撤走，當時已經接近 Fire Sale 階段。所以嘉道理响上海嘅資產，基本上冇哂。後來嘅分別係，沙遜認為香港唔安全，決定完全離開中國。而嘉道理就留响香港，用香港嘅中華電力、大酒店等幾樣東山再起。
