Very well said Simon: Vision is what you imagine it has to be a just cause and pass the following test: 1-Resilient- Your vision can withstand the cultural, political and technological change. 2-Inclusive - The very words that you choose are an invitation to those who believe what you believe whether they are internal or external or an invitation to those who would like to contribute to what you believe I.e it must be open to everyone to feel part of the cause. 3-Service Oriented - In all relationships there is always a benefactor and contributor. And the primary benefit should always go to those other than the contributors. As a leader you should not make a decision to enrich yourself. You have to make decisions to help those you lead. You can make money etc but not as a primary benefit.

i have watched 8 or 9 videos (just now) about "best brand mission statements" and "top vision statements in business" and people said so many boring/dull descriptions of both "vision" and "mission" and provided examples of top companies like Nike or Tesla or Ikea. i was so turned off by all of it, until i found THIS VIDEO. thank you for providing such a SIMPLE AND SHORT yet powerful set of standards for me to include in my business. now i feel excited!

From a personal perspective, I found this really interesting and love the points raised. Ultimately, if we work to be in servitude to the needs of others, not only are we more likely to succeed from a financial perspective, but we offer something to help enrich our world around us

Helps me a lot as a business owner used to the confusion of Vision statements and mission statements. A Just Cause is more motivation than a vision or mission. The one thing I wish Simon would have ended with is saying "Your Just Cause must pass those three tests" instead of Your Mission Statement . . . ".

Vision: how the future of business looks like it focuses on tomorrow Mission: how to get that future it focuses on today's activities to achieve tomorrow's vision.
@JesseHughson3 жыл бұрын
Mission: the change/effect/improvements you set out to accomplish (the why) Vision: the things you build (the what and how) to serve your mission ...OR Vision: the new world you visualize Mission: building the things necessary to reach that reality. It's all semantics. Just make sure you understand your what, how, and why. I think this slipperiness with semantics is why so many successful thought leaders create a new set of jargon to share their ideas. It jumpstarts true listening since it takes you a step away from your ingrained associations.

Creating visionary statements can help businesses in a number of ways. Perhaps most importantly, it can help to create a clear and shared sense of purpose amongst employees. By articulating the company's ambitions and values, everyone can be aligned and working together towards the same goal. Additionally, having a strong and inspiring vision can also help to attract top talent, customers and investors. Lastly, a well-crafted vision can provide guidance and direction during times of change or uncertainty. In short, creating a visionary statement is an important step for any business that wants to achieve long-term success.
@margaritostephen79164 жыл бұрын
In my humble view, visions are more for start-ups, where entrepreneurs live or die based on their view of the future, and whether that future exists or not. Mission (and mission statements) was a 1960s concept where the aim was to get employees in big companies to work together, and sing off the same hymn sheet. One is clarity of the hypothesis behind the creation of the business, the other is corporate education and inspiration. Work out what you need and find the best solution for the job .

Yet some companies have nothing of the sort, other than making money and ONLY making money, both at the company level and the personal level. When that happens, it is very easy for the whole thing to unravel quickly. When times are good, of course everything is a-okay. When the sh*t hits the fan, everyone rushes for the exit. It is also a recipe for all sorts of shady things, like bribery, sacrificing subordinate for your own gain, etc. Because there is no higher cause, individual and company incentives trump all ethical concerns.

I'm as confused as that old man. To me, it's simply the following: Mission is "why" you start a business - purpose. Vision is "where" you see the business going - goals. "How" to get it is the action plan - strategy. Good value system will keep the business inclusive, resilient and consistent.

If your statement is service-oriented, benefiting some other than the contributor. Does this not automatically mean that the statement is inclusive? Or can you think of an example where a service-oriented vision statement is not inclusive?

I am a fan of Simon Sinek.. But I think he's mixed up with the two terms benefactor vs beneficiary.. the contributor of any benefit is the benefactor and the one who is benefiting is the beneficiary.. you as the sales person should be the benefactor and the client should be the beneficiary.. yes true you also as a sales person gains many benefits by selling the products/services/solutions

@0:07 there's no standardised definition? nobody is sure which one goes first? I clicked on this video to learn something. I'll leave it teaching the host something. Every business mentor I have had, and every book on business studies says, 'your vision is the where and why', it's like it implies, 'your vision' what you see for the business in the future. The mission statement is the how, a mission is the plan for how to achieve your vision

Dear God who art in heaven hallow be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever in Jesus Christ's name we pray, amen.
