Effective confrontation with any other person requires these three things in any order: speaking to your feelings, how a specific behavior of theirs affected that, and the impact that behavior might have in the future.
+ + +
Simon is an unshakable optimist who believes in a bright future and our ability to build it together. Described as “a visionary thinker with a rare intellect,” Simon teaches leaders and organizations how to inspire people. With a bold goal to help build a world in which the vast majority of people wake up every single day feeling inspired, feel safe at work, and feel fulfilled at the end of the day, Simon is leading a movement to inspire people to do the things that inspire them. Simon is the author of multiple best-selling books including Start With Why, Leaders Eat Last, Together is Better, and Find Your Why. His new book, The Infinite Game, will be released in 2019.
Simon’s WHY: To inspire people to do the things that inspire them so that, together, each of us can change our world for the better.

This "feelings - behaviour - impact" method reminds me the other confrontation/feedback method called "FRED" - facts, results, emotions, demand. For example: "you were late" (F), "others had to pick up your work" (R), "it makes everyone upset" (E), "you must come on time" (D).
@wsm-4839
@wsm-4839 4 жыл бұрын
Interesting 🤔... but I think FBI is better than FRED in the sense that the later is more authoritarian and kinda aggressive/attacking, while FBI is more a voiced concern that is more forgiving and allowing room to correct oneself without attacking the person’s ego or feeling demoted 😊

If you want to create an aggressive workplace this would work. You want to create an opportunity for the person to grow, f.r.e.d essentially backs someone into a corner, usually good to assign blame and create a disengaged worker. I would recommend the approach Simon gives here as it's more of a reflective statement.

Thank you Simon. I have always believed in identifying the specific action and the specific feeling that the action caused me or the other person to become upset as I knew that was necessary for communication but I have not always successfully created resolution or change as I didn't include the third element which was the impact that behavior might have in the future. Thank you so much for sharing.

FBI - I just applied it in my own situation and it totally paid off before the day ended. I was dumbfounded by the result. I did not expect it. It was real breakthrough for me. I am super grateful to God for what you do. You're such a blessing to me. Keep it up!

CSE Don’t. Start with the most impactful one. Wait for things to get better. Compliment for the progress. And then, present the second one. People need time to grow.

Question Simon, what do you think about the possibility that the internet and online business has made the front lines of sales a predominantly infinite landscape than finite, essentially flipping the script on it's head? A consistency of infinite attracts a few but dedicated finite.
