This really is a treasure trove of knowledge, tricks and skills. Thankfully there is a pause button so one has time to let each new piece of gold sink in. Very grateful for your willingness to share Simon.

@@SimonUbsdell I'm sure it's nearly as fun listening to you at 50% speed. 😇You really don't mess about when you're making these. It's good for the first watch through but too fast (for me) to keep up when following along. Don't change a thing. 😂

@@SimonUbsdell I'm halfway through constructing this (it's a rainy Saturday afternoon in Sydney) and the more I do the more I realise that this is like a steak dinner, I really should still be on mashed pumpkin and I'm wearing most of it on my bib. The obvious signs of missing knowledge are when suddenly it doesn't look like what yours does or it doesn't work and I go back a few seconds and see my error, such as selecting the filter to drop into the image mask source box rather than correctly putting the group containing the filter into the image mask source box. If fact I'm going to speculate that these mistakes and having to sort them out are a better aid in comprehension than strictly following your demonstration. The other thing I have realised is I need to get a better handle on what luminance is because when you chose to use it I know that you have a fair idea what the result will be and I'm still going, "that's pretty, I wish I knew why that happened."
@SimonUbsdell4 жыл бұрын
I'll let you in on a secret - most of the time I have mashed pumpkin down my front. I make mistakes all the time - and often they creep into the tutorial recordings (which is a serious pain especially if I only spot them too late). If you're interested in some hardcore (but easily digested) info on luminance, you might like my compositing school tutorial that covers the topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGm9dKJ8etihaZY It's done in Fusion but the principles apply across everything.

Hi, in my motion 5 (version 5.4.3) ,bump map amount is limited to 1,0. Any suggestions?
@SimonUbsdell3 жыл бұрын
This is one of those controls where if you scroll beyond the limits of the slider, or if you type in you desired value, you can go much higher. In this case the maximum value that you can input is 10.0.
@nicoladonchev90133 жыл бұрын
@@SimonUbsdell Thanks for answer! Your video tutorials is the best place to learn Motion 5. But in this case I can't change values of amount in bump map more than 1,0. I have two mac computers with motion 5 installed and try different projects, but result is the same.

How do you calculate the index between the Floorslab and kaleidotile?
@SimonUbsdell3 жыл бұрын
In this instance it's very complicated. The image is 3096x2602 and it's being scaled to 41.51% so the numbers aren't easy to understand. But if you make a fixed resolution group of 2000x2000 and add into it an image of 1000x1000 (scaled to 100%) then to get perfect tiling you would choose a value of 1000 for both the width and height of the Kaleidotile effect. From this you should be able to work out how the numbers I used are right.

I have a very big problem in kaleidotile...
@BCBrownBooks3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. This was incredibly easy to follow along with & precisely the effect I wanted to know how to do. I did come to a small issue that I'm sure I'm missing something small, but it is annoying me nonetheless. After making the 2D group within the 3D floor group, once I move the FloorSlab into the 2D group, if I add the Kaleidotile effect to the group, the slab does not tile like yours. And if I add it to the FloorSlab specifically, it tiles but it does not fill the full foreground (unless I transform the image) nor does it stretch behind the GLITCH text (it overlays the word GLITCH instead). Again, I'm sure it is something small that I have missed, however if you have any suggestions I would gladly take them.
