Truma Ultrastore swap with Truma Rapid gas electric water heater

Replacing a Truma Ultrastore mains/gas water boiler with a new Truma Rapid unit. The differences and similarities between them and what you need to look out for.

Your Truma Ultrastore has broken down and it's not a replaceable part that's gone wrong. Your only option is to change the whole damn thing. The Ultrastore is now obsolete and the nearest equivalent is the Truma Rapid which is physically identical apart from being black instead of grey and has a slightly different mains boiler element. The Ultrastore is 1300 watts, the Rapid is switchable between 800 and 1300 watts (not 1500 as I state in the video).
There's very few problems with swapping the two over if you are competent as DIY. The nearest thing to a worry is undoing the gas connection on the old unit (switch off the gas bottle first) and refitting it to the new - tight enough to be secure but not so tight that you're stripping threads.
The Rapid also has a felt block in the gas tube. It's up to you if you take it out. As far as I know, it's only there to stop insects and debris from getting inside the burner area, although someone may say different in the comments section. I may need to update this description.
The other concern might be wiring in the mains connection. Again, make sure that you disconnect from the mains before you start and check everything before you put power back on.
