@BryanInvest16 сағат бұрын
Hey mate, I usually prefer a higher VGS weighting since Australia only makes up 2% of the global stock market. Also, Vanguard doesn’t offer chess sponsorship and it’s very biased to towards vanguard products. So if you want to buy other shares, it’s more expensive. And thank you 😊

Yeah fair enough. Although to be fair, the $500 minimum is there because it costs brokers money in Australia to offer chess sponsorship. Which is an extra layer of security for your stocks that the US doesn't have. If you use a non chess sponsored broker, you could buy less than $500 for your initial investment. I do agree with fractional shares though.

Considering the fact of income tax despite better performance, isn't it wiser to keep money in an offset account instead? That way you save the interest you would have paid without income tax implications. This means if your mortgage rate is 6%, these funds need to make at least 13% to get the exact same benefit after tax.
@BryanInvestАй бұрын
While I do agree with the notion that sometimes it’s safer to put money in the offset account during high interest periods since it’s a guaranteed tax free return, but I’m not sure how a 6% savings = 13% return. If you get a 6% saving from offset, that is a tax free return which is great. If you earn 13% return, then even after tax that is still a higher return than a 6% tax free savings.

I have one doubt, like if I invest in those two funds VGS, VAS as you mentioned, and go through the broker you have also mentioned… Why in the broker site like as soon as we clicked on the link to created an account it looks like it’s a single share!?? Like charging per share!??? I thought if I chose those two funds it would be all the single shares in there, isn’t that right? I mean I thought if I do only two transactions they would charged me per 2 transactions and not how many shares are in there!!!? I thought we just choose those 2 funds and go from there, right, but why is charging per share?? Imagine I want to invest in one hit $10k in one fund like VGS and $3k in VAS, so the broker would likely to charge me for two transaction?? Or for each stocks including in each fund???
@BryanInvestАй бұрын
Hey mate, the broker doesn’t charge per share. It’s per transaction/total value. So for this broker in particular, if you want to buy $10,000 worth of VAS it will charge you $3. If you want any less, it will be still be $3. If you want VAS + VGS then it will charge you $3 per trade per ETF. Hope this makes sense.

I currently use Stake, is there a disadvantage if I move over to Moomoo and start buying ETF's from there and have ETF's in both Stake and Moomoo or just continue to use Stake?

Hey mate, if you already have Stake then it's fine. You can keep using them. They are also a good broker. However, if you feel a bit of FOMO with Moomoo (and their bonuses 😉), you could always sign up and see if you like it better than Stake. And if you do, you could transfer your shares from Stake to Moomoo (it's quite simple): www.moomoo.com/au/support/topic6_488 There's no disadvantage having multiple brokers other than you having to track multiple accounts. I have several ETFs in multiple different brokers myself and don't have any issues.

Interesting question. However, a bit hard to calculate accurately because the top 10-15 companies are constantly changing. The ETF is market cap weighted. So say company 30 does well, they could get into the top 10 and that in turns makes the entire ETF grow in value. So I think it's a tough question. However, I do notice in Australia, many of the big companies usually remain the top companies over the long term.

Hey Bryan, I bought 127 units of VGS when it was at peak. It declined 5% the next week. Now it’s slowly increasing, will it affect me in future? Or is it best to buy when its price is falling?
@anjalim0262 ай бұрын
Short-term price drops are normal. If ETF fits your long-term goals, buying more when prices fall can lower your average cost like set buy orders at specific price levels. This allows you to purchase when the price hits your target, ideally near the mean. Consider diversifying with other investments to manage the risk
@blocinmotion2 ай бұрын
An ETF is something you want to hold onto for about 10+ years. It's a long term strategy. The advice is to not be swayed by the movement of the stock market and continue to invest routinely.

Hey mate, the two people above me are correct. Don't look at short term prices. You'll drive yourself crazy doing that (coming from a guy who checked several times a day when he first started). The whole purpose of dollar cost averaging and investing long term is to not time the market but to get the average of the market. Having said that, I do buy a bit more on days when they are on discount. Again, it's a long term strategy. Stick to the plan.

Hi Bryan, what do you think of VHY ? I cant decide between VAS and VHY.
@BryanInvestАй бұрын
VAS contains most if not all of the companies VHY has + some growth companies that could be bit more risky. VHY is focused on high dividend paying companies so the ETF itself naturally pays a higher dividend but less ‘growth’ potential.
