Simple and cheap to make. Pure hydrogen - Pure oxygen. HHO Hydrogen Generator. Electrolysis

Hello. As promised I came back with the promised video with the hydrogen generator that separates water from hydrogen and oxygen. This generator removes pure hydrogen and pure oxygen separately, so this hho generator is a separator. I used a 3D printer to get some parts much easier than making them from other materials. The walls of the generator are made of 10 mm plexiglass cut, drilled and shaped by me. The gaskets are made of 0.5 mm thick rubber. The stainless steel plates are made of laser cut 316L stainless steel. The surface where the electrolysis takes place is 100 mm in diameter, so the separators I took out of the 3 d printer have a diameter of 100 mm and a thickness of 5 mm. As you saw in the video, oxygen comes out on the right side and pure hydrogen comes out on the left side. For electrolysis I used distilled water and a little potassium hydroxide and as usual current from a 12 V car battery. The amps consumed were around 8-10 amps. We used 7 stainless steel plates, 4 of which were made to produce hydrogen and 3 to produce oxygen. You can use more boards if you want a higher production. I'm not going to use this generator for anything, I just built it to get an idea of how you can separate the two gases.
Thank you very much for your time and support, you are my success so don't forget to subscribe to comment and like!

Hi, your work is perfect, as I once wrote. But you have one mistake there. Plate No. 1, which you laid in the first assembly, has no effect, because it has no possibility to remove gas - it is blocked by a separator, which in the chasing part removes oxygen from electrode No. 2. In my opinion, a separator must be laid as No. 1, which will remove the gas from electrode No. 2, etc. Mistakes happen. Good luck

@@Inventive101 Wow, no! it's a mess! It's like a car against a wall - a biased blind man ok I also have to buy a 3D printer, the work is faster. My separator is not very simple and it is not so powerful. Probably more chambers would be needed. It will be OK with a 3D printer, but you will need to glue the upper part well after installing the electrodes. I don't know how to send you a drawing, my email: protipol@gmail.com

Question sir, Would it be possible to make a self-contained unit that you could say wear on your back or person, and use it to create oxygen for scuba, how much would you need to be able to breathe well. Could you breath that , or would it have to be scrubbed like threw charcoal or something? Thank you in advance just curious

@@dirtwizard5647 I think he can breathe. it is pure oxygen. The problem would be that if you wanted to carry it on your back it would be very difficult. I don't know how many liters of oxygen a minute is needed to be able to breathe well

I'm sorry, I got a little involved in PEM separation membranes. I actually also have one generator this way, but simple. Plexiglass, three chambers and three electrodes in them. In the middle minus and on the sides plus. The two baffles in the middle end above the floor so that the ions can flow to the other electrodes. The gases are well separated. But your work is perfect. Congratulations

Great idea! Just a little observation, the main idea behind the dry cell design is to make the electrolysis process more efficient. But, using those plastic separators, the electric current can only pass through the hole where the water pass, so the current will travel from the edges of the hole to the edges of the other hole on the other plate. That makes resistance as the wet cell design does. Maybe I'm wrong, just a though. I wonder if instead of plastic, you use a neutral plate with just the borders in plastic so the current can pass through the neutral plate to the other plate. In this case a large area will conduct and produce hydrogen. Maybe putting some plastic or rubber on the edges of the holes where the water pass through will increase efficiency. Maybe not. Has to be tried.
@Inventive101
@Inventive101 3 жыл бұрын
The neutral plate takes current even if it has rubber edges. I think it can be done as you say, but it needs to be tested a little

No it wouldn't work with a neutral plate (of metal). Because if current passes through it, that would mean that the reaction take place on it as well. So supposing you get it to work, you would simply loose the separation of H2 and O2. Ideally the separator should be made of a material that allows OH- ions to travel through, as they carry the charges in the solution, so that they don't need to go all the way through the one hole at the bottom. I wonder if a piece of cloth would do the job, as it might stop gas bubbles once it's soaked up...

I think we can use nafion (a polymer) as a separator around cathodes since it doesn't allow electrons but only protons to pass through.

I see other video which a person use PEM Electrolysis for making Hydrogen only (he trow away oxigen and other things beside hydrogen) and using compressor to compress it in a big gass tank. He always use hydrogen analizer to check how many percent hydrogen its produce. He said that if below 95% its dangerous because Hydrogen and Oxigen mix if pressured can ignite itself. If the not for storage it's ok not pure. I also concern with the distance and seperation the positive and negative electrode. My experience more distance and more seperator of the positive and negative electrode the stream of electricity can flow in water drop dramaticly. So maybe more evicient making HHO because don't need to seperate it with plastic membran and the distance can very very near. In HHO Generator 1mm or 2mm is already diffrence in ampere. Do you have diffrence experience or knowlede because i don't have experience with Hydrogen seperate with Oxigen in dry cell. I have try it before in wet cell. About the distance and the plastic seperator. What the ampere and voltage, what the diffrence with HHO Dry cell example with "+ n n n n n - n n n n n +" thank you.

Corrosion question : How are the plates after a longer use ? I guess you're using stainless steel, so I wonder how it actually performs in such a basic solution, and with electricity flow. Because I know that in commercial electrolyser, nickel is used, which is also what makes steel stainless as it contains a certain amount of it.

Is HHO better or pure hydrogen better for fuel saving in the car?

I think hho is easier and more cost effective to use. The engine also needs oxygen. The separation process is more expensive
