Hi Guys,
In this week's video, IO wanted to put together a simple HIP-HOP DJ set.
Hip Hop can be quite a difficult genre to Mix on DJ Decks. However, I don't believe it needs to be. I have created a video showing you some simple DJ transitions that can be used to mix almost any HIP-HOP music.

I have to say the most important thing that's necessary is track selection. Most at a party are not paying attention to transitions between songs as they are paying attention to what your playing. You can have all the technical mix skills in the world but you will not be any good if your track selection is horrible. You can't teach that.

How I do all of my home mixes lol. My kids are always like "play the full song" But I'm just practicing transitions and trying to get as many reps in as possible in small amounts of time lol. In public though I'll usually mix out of the 2nd or 3rd chorus. Unless the crowd just isnt feeling a certain song, then I'll mix out on 1st chorus. Thanks for all the lessons that helped me learn how to mix simple like this very quickly!

Nice Phil. One thing though; mixing in key isn't as crucial when mixing Hip Hop n R&B. The very nature of it (especially if you're headlining, playing the latest jointz) can pigeon hole a DJ if he/she tries to remain "in key".

Dope mix. The only thing I would change is try to not have too much of the intro of many of the songs playing. That transition from DMX to Candy Shop didn’t need to have the Candy shop intro playing. Could’ve transitioned into the hook

I've read that they've changed their music licensing policies to allow for such content. I believe the adverts then go to the artists' who's tracks feature, but I may be wrong. With regards to the profanity, I don't think they restrict that.

You don’t get intros/outros because you don’t download songs from the proper sources online. So many record pools have Dj made hip hop song edits with intros/outros. Also just make your own edits if you don’t find it fun mixing songs with out intros/outros. Just put in the work or don’t expect phenomenal sounding Dj mixes.
