I just finished the cut and fold in the rear, got the stock bumper and hitch off, and got the openings cut out. Bought my 2x4 and 1x1 tubing for a grand total of $37 today! This video is absolutely amazing, thank you so much!

I have watched a bunch of your simple jeep fabrication videos and I love them! It's inspiring me to pick up a welder again and try to make some similar cool stuff. I'm thinking about adding a hitch in the middle and on the side, and fabricating a removable tire carrier. When I am around town, I can throw my tire in the trunk, no problem, but on longer trips I need more space, so then I can mount it on the back. I'm also going to add a receiver on the front to make the car a lot more modular, and have winch mounting options.

2 jeeps ago, I had a rear bumper made up. I insisted that the 2" trailer receptacle was recessed into the bumper, so, when your hitch was not there, it was smooth. I think that bumper had to be 2x6. Planning to build one myself for my current XJ. Nice work! Nice video.

Off the topic… Can I ask what paint you used for the tail lights ? Was it just standard Nightshadow paint.. They look less smoked then what I’ve seen done and less likely to attract unwanted police attention

I want to make a super simple bumper and wondering is there a universal or nation wide rule that says it has to be a 1/4 inch thick? I just took a liftgate off a step van I got and now think I need a bumper. Was thinking wood but was told by my states inspection that it needs to be backed by a 1/4 thick plate of steel. There are 1/4 inch thick hanging plates from the frame down but at the same time I see most bumpers made out of plastic.

Awesome job! Love your videos buddy... do you think the sides can take the body weight if you come down hard on a rock?
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 5 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. Its not very thick material bit I think the design is strong. I think it would hold up pretty well on an impact but I guess I'll find out.

How much does it weigh? I think I will use your ideas on this build. Less tapering on the ends . Figure a swing away tire mount. Great build

Not sure how much it weighs. Honestly not that much though and I think the design makes weigh less the most aftermarket bumpers

I live in a place in WA were the cops have plenty of time to pull over lifted trucks and give is grief. WA state laws says a bumper must be factory or replaced with Atleast a 4.5" face bumper. So my 2x4 bumper is not legal Yet again our cops have nothing better to do but find half inch loop holes to pull us over.
@MuddyBeards4X4
@MuddyBeards4X4 5 жыл бұрын
Wow that is too bad. I have heard stories about stuff like that, luckily I have not had that issue, although my rig doesn't really see the pavement.

@@MuddyBeards4X4 thanks for the quick response! After I commented I did think about trail only Vs pavement to trail rigs, and again living in an area were things are kind of boring cops look for loop holes no matter how small just to pull over and check.. I'm still rocking the 2x4 as MY loop hole is my truck never came from the factory with a bumper and picture proof for them too lol I like your guy's Videos and love the fabrication that goes on for rigs that could be pavement to trail rigs. Tubbin the Cherokee is a great idea for that large tire that rolls down the road, flexes off-road, but isn't to wide to be driven down the pavement. I would like to meet you guys out on the WA trails one of these day's and do some wheeling. Again thanks for the quick response and keep fabbing

Muddy Beards 4X4 I, too, would like to see you out on the trail. But I gotta get my Jeep finished. From my experience with the WaSP action in Spokane, the bumper is supposed to be a minimum of three inches tall and extend from outside of tire to outside of tire. However, they can suck it. Glorified tax collectors for jay inslee.

Dude take your taillights out and cover the rear of the Jeep especially the back window with a welding blanket before you weld on or near that jeep man, how hard is it to pull out 4 bolts to remove both taillights and throw a welding blanket over the car so it don't look like somebody sandblasted your rear windows and burn potential holes in any local plastic parts IE the taillights. Btw you are adding so much unecessary weight to a vehicle already low on power once lifted with big tires. Shoulda used 3/16" , that's plenty thick to support the entire rear end of the Jeep as long as you use a nutsert like design in the frame rails to mount extended bumper mounts onto , the same holes and strips that the factory used to mount a trailer hitch will do just fine. Def woulda added a class 3 reciever as well and I'd keep a winch in the trunk permanently mounted to a reinforced 3/16" steel winch plate which would then be welded to a piece of 2 1/4" ID square tubing so that the whole assembly can within minutes be thrown on either the rear of the Jeep or on the front (assuming you build or buy a bumper with a front receiver) of the Jeep with just the simple insertting of a hitch pin and clevis pin to secure it.
