I was lucky enough to have a friend that babysat my 2 year old everyday for a month after I had surgery and was bedridden (30+ years ago) She brought me "medicine soup" from her mom, hot and sour, and her dish made with this sausage. Hers was stir fried and full of green vegetables, finished with bean sprouts. I happened to travel to a large enough city yesterday and found an Asian market and bought all the ingredients including the wine. So it's truly comfort food and memory of one of the kindest people I have ever known. I miss you Elaine Thom.

Duuuuuddee! Let me tell yah. I made this dish two days ago and woke up with a stomach bug, so I added the leftover meat to chicken broth with soy sauce and oyster sauce with a pinch of sugar then poured it over the rice like a soup. With all that gingery goodness, oh my god it was so good and it settled my stomach. My husband took a bite and said he liked it much better as a soup.

I love chinese sausage. When I was growing up my dad would just throw the chinese sausage in the rice cooker as it was cooking lol. So I do that sometimes now. I think to describe it its like a sweet soy sauce? But I love it in fried rice too.

This is one of my favorite Chinese dishes growing up and even now. My aunties and restaurants always chopped up a whole chicken with bones in it but I prefer it this way boneless a lot better. I just never know what sauces/spice and the amounts for ingredients so it would come out disappointingly bland, not very good tasting, not close to how it's suppose to taste, or way too salty so I gave up. Even though you said you're not here for the recipes, but I am here for the recipes and glad you are on KZbin. I like following your tips and mostly your easy cooking methods that uses the least amount of dishes because I don't like washing dishes too. Thank you for showing us another nostalgic dish!

This looks SO good - I definitely will give it a go! I reckon some bok choy tucked into the same steamer set up, outside of the chicken plate, will make me feel extra virtuous but still keep this as a 2 pot meal. Having less to wash up is an extra bonus! Thanks FLO and DUDE for another great, simple, do-able, economical recipe!

Mmmm Flo, that looks really good. And I'm so hungry right now. Is that sausage only found at an Asian market or will a regular grocery store carry it? Could you write its name so I have the spelling, please. I actually have Chinese sausage in my fridge but it's not like a salami, it's more like an Italian sausage but it's red with Chinese seasoning. Would it work? Happy Sunday to you, as well. ❤

You can definitely find it in an Asian and some supermarkets may carry it. Phonetically it’s “lap cheong” 臘腸. Hope this helps.

Just bought your new book, can't wait to try all these recipes! I'm not a fan of mushrooms but will give this one a try as my husband loves them. I have 1 question though...have you ever mentioned how you cook your everyday white rice? I've been thinking about investing in a zojirushi rice cooker but wanted to know what you use as well? Thanks for sharing another great recipe!
@FloLum Жыл бұрын
I did a video several years ago using the Instant Pot which is what I still use. Zojirushi is at the top end of rice cookers and I would consider it if/when my Instant Pots die.
@stevieparsons8451 Жыл бұрын
Adding my two cents here - I love my Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy. I fought buying it for years cause it is pricey; my husband bought it for me two years ago; I’m only sorry I didn’t get it earlier. It is fabulous and I take it everywhere we travel. We eat a lot of Asian food and being from Hawaii and a retired chef…hot, perfect rice is super important. 🤓
@NintendoNerdKim Жыл бұрын
Japanese rice cookers are easy to use. They come with a Japanese rice measuring cup. Simply use that to measure the amount of rice. After you have rinsed and cleaned the rice several times, you will measure equal parts water and fill it up to the line in the rice pot that comes with the cooker. I.e. 1 cup of rice, 1 cup of water and you will fill the water to the corresponding 1 line in the pot. They have measurement lines for White rice, brown rice, sushi rice and sweet rice in most rice pots that come with the rice cooker. Make sure to swish the rice pot around the counter at least once or twice to make sure the rice is evenly leveled and sitting flat in the pot. Put the pot into the cooker and press cook!
@tangirenes Жыл бұрын
The Zojirishi rice cooker fuzzy logic is great especially not having to use your finger to measure the amount of water since there are lines on the side to tell you the measurement per rice cup that comes with it as mentioned by nintendonerdkim. It is quite pricey so my husband and I put it on our wedding wishlist..that was 9 years ago. We dont use it every day though but it's still working great. My husband made jook with one time too (one of the functions). The only downside is that the pot has nonstick coating so we are very careful with being gentle on scopping or stirring anything inside. I wish they came out with rice cookers with non toxic nonstick coating.

I LOVE most mushrooms - but I've recently tried king oyster mushrooms and hated the texture, maybe that's the problem for some people. I cooked the same recipe (soy butter glazed) with the recommended king oysters twice because I thought I'd mucked it up, hence the slimy rubbery texture. Tried the same recipe with regular mushies and WOW they were delicious!
@CdnChopSuey Жыл бұрын
From the time I was 0- 22 years old, I hated mushrooms. It was too earthy tasting. But now as I’m older and ‘refined’, I am loving mushrooms more than ever. Truly anytime I saw mushrooms as a kid, I’d stick my nose up. 😅
@bullzeyes23 Жыл бұрын
I love mushrooms but the old man in our home has the theory that we can't eat leftover mushrooms so each time we cook any dish with mushrooms we have to finish it. He said that leftovers will have bacteria and become poisonous. Talk about old people with smartphone. I always want to try to cook Malaysian claypot mushroom chicken rice but....
