This is a great pattern and great tutorial. I am size L and have managed to adapt with same stitch count. I had a load of Fluffy Day yarn (it is like mohair. meant to be DK but hard to handle). So..... I did rib band on 6mm (same number of stitches) but with single back stich, not slip stitch. Then changed to 8mm (I would not do this on regular Aran yarn as it may look odd... but with mohair type yarn, it works). I have then followed pattern. I am up to armhole bit, but just eyeballing! I will let you know my progress. Only put this on here because I can see there is interest in larger sizes and certainly not a complaint for a very informative video x

Yes, I would love to hear how its going. I'm a self taught crocheter and made this pattern based on my own body so I'm not really sure the best way to size up the pattern. Your experience with making it would be super helpful to other people!

@@rosaferns - I think the proper way to make larger is by the way you said to someone else. Just increase the stitches for front panels... and back panel in proportion. I was just very lucky that my yarn looks good on a way too large hook. I will certainly keep you updated. Finished all 3 panels today and on my large hook with back loop hdc, it is working well. Sleeves in correct position, etc. Thank you again, Rosa. I am also self taught and love that you use American terminology because that is also how I learnt - on KZbin about 15 years ago! Yessss! You go girlllll. I like how slowly you work. I learn by repeatedly watching the action over and over again. So this really works for me. Very good close ups so one can see exactly where to put the hook. Love the fact that there are no speeded up camera shots I'm better at knitting. My crochet tends to go wierd and lop sided as I don't always place the hook in the right place. I get so stressed when I crochet so I don't tend to do it very often.😥 Its really good to hear a tuturial made by a British person so I am not going to get confused like I do when following an American crafter. Questions: 1. How long is the yarn per 100g? 2. Are you using a UK Size 5 hook or a 5mm hook? (not the same) I started this Cardigan, because I wanted to use up leftover Aran weight yarn. Or I at least I thought it was. I wear XS-S normally, but using a 5mm hook like you said, I had to tripple the stitch count... so either the yarn is too thick, the hook size too small, or you are very tiny and thin. I am German, so I looked up what Aran weight meant exactly: 60-120m/100g... that is a huge difference. I ended up using a 7mm hook.

To make a larger size just add a few more rows to the body ribbing (it should be big enough to fit comfortably around your waist). Then when dividing it into the front and back panels, use this: a = total stitches (a +5)/2 = back panel stitches b = back panel stitches (b-5)/2 = front panel stitches Everything else should more or less be the same. Let me know if you have any more questions and if you need help dividing the stiches up, leave a comment and I'll help you out :)

A gauge for the ribbing and for the body would be most helpful. Someone earlier commented about getting rippling when moving onto the body. I'm getting the same thing, I think because my ribbing is tighter than yours and so when I move onto the body the 6 mm hook is too big. I went down a size and it's still giving me ripples, but when I stretch out the ribbing, it is fine. I added more rows to the ribbing than you, just assuming I'm a larger size, but now I think it was just that I was crocheting too tight. So a gauge would be helpful. You can measure it now and let us know what it is, so that those in the future won't have the same problems.

@rosaferns2 жыл бұрын

Hi! Love your tutorial and I’m trying to reproduce it, I’m at minute 8:00 and I’m shaping the neckline of the front panels. I started the front panel with 29 stitches instead of 24 because i made a bigger size and i was asking myself if i should do more sets of rows with the decrease so that i end up with a narrower row when i start the 5 rows of simple HDC. If i only do 6 sets i end up with 23 stitches. Thank you very much! 🥰I hope i explained myself, English is not my first language 😁😁
@rosaferns3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on how wide you want the v-neck to be. You can hold it up to your body and decide based on how it looks. If you like it narrow then don't decrease any more but if you like it a bit more open you can decrease a few more rows. e.g. \ / or \ / \/ \ / I hope that makes sense, let me know if you need any more help :)

Hi, Love the cardigan, thought I would crochet one for my daughter. However, my daughter is a size 12-14 women's size. I know how to increase the waist and front panel under the arm but, when I come to decrease for the v shape do I need to increase my rows or, do I increase at the top when I've finished increasing as she's a d cup bra size and not sure about fit. I've also figured your formula for front panel stitches and back panel stitches which was very helpful as size and stitches can be worked out when I'm at that point. Thanks Jo.

Hey i have difficulty in sleeves part….. how many rows of hdc exactly do I have to do?
@marcyspieler86682 жыл бұрын
Love this pattern. One ? When working the neck edge, are you dec on the neck edge on one row, then arm edge on the next row, or just the neck edge every other row keeping the arm edge even?
@rosaferns2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Just the neck edge every other row. The armhole edge should remain straight but the neckline edge will be slanted :)

Any idea why mine wrinkles after doing hdc after ribbing? 😢
@BeccainHawaii8 ай бұрын
Probably your tension is different. Either looser or tighter You can change your needle size to adjust the tension.

Thank you so much for this tutorial, it's lovely!! I started hdc onto the ribbing part and I'm three rows in and it's super wavy. Is this normal or is my tension way off??
@rosaferns2 жыл бұрын
Don't worry, that is normal. It because the waist band is tight and the cardi is bigger and flares out. After a few more rows it should flatten out a bit. Without seeing a pic I can't be 100% sure, but it sounds right :)

Great video, I'm making the cardigan, at the part of the front panel neckline rn and I'm very surprised by how wavy and big the upper part from the ribbing is getting, I have seen from your previous answers to some comments that some wavyness is to be expected but when I put it on my body to see how the project is going the neckline can't even be perceived by how big and wavy the cardigan is getting. The ribbing looks fine , and I did the same amount of rows in the first HDC than in the ribbing, so one indented, one not, but it's so big, is this normal? Will the cardigan magically make sense once i finish crocheting all or should I stop and revaluate?
@rosaferns3 жыл бұрын
Hi Yuno, I'm not sure I completely understand which stage you're at but I'll try my best to help: - So if you at around 4:28, it is normal for your work to be wavy. It's just because the ribbing is smaller than the body. But this should not be insane, it should just be a bit waviness and will flatten out as you continue adding rows. - If you're at around 24:00 and are working on the neckline, there should be no waviness at all. If you do have waviness, reduce the number of stitches you are doing and make sure they're evenly spaced around the neckline I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any clarification :)
@yunolyra72973 жыл бұрын
@@rosaferns thank you so much for your answer, I am at 4:28 but the wave is insane and I think I know why. When you're explaining the ribbing you state yours is 105 rows, or in other words, 50 cm while not stretched. That's a very small measurement for a waist to be and I mistook what a "row" was for it to make sense. I think I misunderstood what you said in the video when you say it in cm because I saw a size converting chart and an XS in the UK is like 62 cm waist, and this cardigan is supposed to accommodate a UK S. I hope I'm making sense haha. Was your ribbing actually 50 cm unstretched? Or, if it isn't too much to ask, how much is your waist in cm? Thank you again for your time
@rosaferns3 жыл бұрын
@@yunolyra7297 My waist is around 58cm but the cardigan can stretch a lot to at least 70cm

@@rosafernsthank you! I'll try and decrease the amount of HDC that I make right after the ribbing and see if the waving goes down.

Question does this only fit people who fit into a small could someone who wears an XL make this or would it not work
@rosaferns3 жыл бұрын
You could make a larger size by increasing the ribbing band to fit your waist. The pattern will need some adjustments tho. I'm still only a amateur crocheter so I haven't tested any other sizes

So is it do row 1 then 2 then 2 then 1 for the first part of the panel or is it row 1 row 2 row 1 row 2? Cause you seem like it’s getting smaller as you do the rows and mine only seem like that on one side

Heyy, so this cardigan is a XS-S or a UK size 6. For your reference, here are my measurements Bust: 31" Waist: 24" Hips: 34" Hope that helps with the sizing! I used around 500 grams (600-700 meters) but this might vary for you, it will depend on the type of yarn your using and your crochet tension

I started doing the ribbing with a 4mm hook and since I don't have a 5mm hook I continued with a 6mm one but it's looking a bit odd...Should I continue or go back and do everything with a 4mm hook?
@kisha42563 жыл бұрын
heyy. The second step with the 8 rows of hdc is really wavy. Im guessing it is because i dont understand the indented row and raised row that much.Or is it another issue?
@rosaferns3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kisha, Since the waistband is smaller than the body, it will be wavy at first. This is normal, as you continue the waviness should go away (just make sure you have the correct number of stitches) :)
