Very good. Thank you for sharing. This type of no lies or BS vids is why I'm on YT. You earned my sub. Cheers from Clint in Virginia.

Great idea. I have seen something like that on a larger stouter scale that blacksmiths used for punching holes. I thought about some improvements. I will make one of these and try my improvements and let you know how it works. Thank you.

Clever solution. Thanks for the video. Couldn't quite make out what that big, thick washer called. Please advise.
@ONG6324Ай бұрын
The big washer is a 1-inch standard flat washer, I had it in the collection for some years so I don't really know where it came from, I measured it against the ones they sell at my hardware store and it's the same size, there are also so-called "1 inch SAE Washers" that have a slightly smaller ID but still fit over a 1" bolt

Was a sparky in large maintenance shops and never saw a dimple on any sheet metal. Why & where a tin knocker install a dimple ?
@garbo8962Ай бұрын
Even though he mentioned he was you g to place dimples on a tool box or similar thing would be afraid of them wearing thru.

I will use it for the dimpled feed on sheet metal toolboxes, I suppose it could be decorative as well

How could you add a centered hole to the dimple. 2. thoughts on punching through to make the next step, a flanged hole?
@ONG6324Ай бұрын
Could add a short length of grade 8 bolt sticking out of the small washer, and sharpen the end of it...might have to try that
@vandalsgarageАй бұрын
I'd drill the hole first, then add the dimple.
@836dmarАй бұрын
One benefit of drilling the hole first is that you could incorporate a pilot into the die that would keep the dimple concentric. Trying to locate the dimple and then drilling could mean a less than perfect hole location within the dimple(hole location is often critical). Drill first and you would have to blindly center the dimple over the predrilled hole. A pilot would help there. Great idea here with lots of options! Thanks!

@@ONG6324 A shoulder bolt with the threads cut off welded on there to center it. Just don't get a bolt larger than your largest drill bit for the pilot. Great Idea with the hinge! Upon further watching thew vid you already have a good bolt for the pilot you were using as the "alignment tool".

They can be used for dimple feet on sheet metal boxes, I attached a link to video below and in the description that shows the dimple feet that I made with a crude tool before I came up with this idea, you can see them at 9:48 in that video...thanks for watching! kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpuogKR_otB8rZo

@@ONG6324 I'm sorry, don't understand dimpled feed on sheet metal toolboxes.
@zjtr10since8027 күн бұрын
@@woodturner1954I think he’s meant FEET not feed. The dimple keeps the bottom of the toolbox slightly raised so it’s not sitting in water (for instance)

If that washer was CAD plated you should never grind or sand it off! CAD plating is a very bad carcinogen. You should not weld it at all as well. Just my two cents. Thank you for the vid.
