I bought a couple twelve foot composite deck boards and replaced the trailer bunks with those, even the side bunks and fender skids.

Nice! Hope it works out well for you. They’re not sturdy enough for my application
@jl123ist10 сағат бұрын
@@GooberTimeGuideService Actually, I left the treated wood on the bottom bunk boards and tapered and screwed the composite on top. So I still have the strength of the treated boards with the slippery composite on top.

For the price of the paint the resin and 2x4 you could have spent just a little more a used 1x3” channel iron, that’s the way my ‘Tricker Trailer’ came. Also if you leave the bunk bracket bolts a little loose the bunks will align themselves and you can tighten them with the boat on the trailer. Those teflon or nylon (that’s what I call them what ever they’re made of) strips are the only way to go, mine run the whole length. I’ve lucky to have access to scrap from a saw mill and years ago salvaged 2 and 3 foot and longer pieces of it that I have used on a few trailers. It also handy for shimming things like pole holders or bow anchor systems.

Should have coated the Douglas fir bunks with the resin first, the resin bonds into the wood better than it will bond to the paint, the paint is the weak point of the bond. Those "glide slick" type products are okay for aluminum boats but the create intense pressure points against the bottom of a fiberglass hull that will create indentations where they rest against the hull bottom. The best option to help your boat slide most easily on the trailer is to cover your existing bunk carpets with the old style grass carpet used back in the 70's and early 80's.

Polyester resin will shrink and crack over time. I would just use polyurethane sealer like used for decks. Paint it AFTER.

@bjen6976Ай бұрын
The video was good, I like that you used resin to seal the wood, I would do the same, but I would use carpet, because I would worry that the slides would scratch the bottom of the boat, and get worse over time.
@GooberTimeGuideServiceАй бұрын
Completely understand. Version 2 of this project is even better but there’s nothing to worry about with the slides. No scratches after months of use on a guide boat
@richerwin6397Ай бұрын
Those glides that are raised above the bunk surface create extreme pressure points that will indent your fiberglass hull over time. Cover your carpeted bunks with the old style grass carpet popular in the 70's; dirt cheap, easy to staple on, and provide even pressure.
@GooberTimeGuideServiceАй бұрын
@@richerwin6397 you’re welcome to do what you like but I promise it’s not an issue. Been using it for years on other trailers and the only thing that’s different is I don’t have carpet rotting my wood. Thanks for watching

@@GooberTimeGuideService The fiberglass resin creates a terrific barrier against water intrusion, but paint "over" the resin, let the resin bonds to the wood.
