Simple Exhaust Pipe Repair

Today we have to preform a Simple Exhaust Pipe Repair on my sister's 2004 Hyunda Santa Fe, but it is the same for just about any car.

Wish you were my bro! That's really nice of you. My pipe rusted off like that. Still is. Monroe Muffler in MA (01089) wanted over a grand to fix it, giving me a song and dance about why they couldn't weld it b/c I'm just a "stupid woman." Anyway, you're an awesome bro.

Those muffler shops are freaking thieves. Have a problem with my 2003 windstar. The flex piece developed a leak. I'm looking to fix it myself. So, I'm searching for information on the pipes diameters. Looking to spend about $100.00 Never worked on mufflers before. So, I have been educating myself on it. By watching videos and reading about what size fits into what sizes.

I literally have this right now and I seen where the problem is I just hope the mechanic doesn’t try to stuff the price because I can fix it myself now thanks to you I just want to go and see what he’s going to say

Much easier to cut three half shells to bridge that gap and use muffler cement and clamps. See " Instructables- Beagles- DIY exhaust repairs" for details.

While that would work for some people, In my experience it doesn't stand up to the use of people who buy 4x4s because they need 4x4s...

This is good but I would have applied muffler sealant on the pipes then clamp it. Let sealant dry for a day. I think you want to make sure no air escapes at the attachments so muffler sealant is added extra to lessen noise. Nice job.

Thank you, but I have never been in a muffler shop that uses "muffler cement", it is just not really of any real use.

If you are in the USA you can get Stainless Steel Tape that sets up harder with heat...

you should've used nothing but the heat tape .. wouldn't the electrical tape just melt right away ? and somehow go all over the heat tape ? checkout manyautosltd.com A brilliant garage.
