Guys I don’t make videos longer than 15 minutes very often. This one is worth the watch until the end. So much valuable information and really smart ideas for making all of us more organized and saving us time. Big thank you to Doug for showing us all these tricks he’s learned over the last 30 years.

I’m so glad I spent the time watching this whole video, it gave me inspiration to go out and start clearing and organizing my garage tomorrow. I decided to split half my garage into tools and the other half is my outdoor kitchen, being said I need to organize the tool side and this video helped me so much, thank you guys, I also just subscribed to Doug’s KZbin channel.

I have a confession to make. I have gone back and watched this video multiple times. There are so many great ideas and things to see in this video that you just can't absorb it all in one or two "watchings". I am 60 years old and I can figure out how to organize things on my own, but seeing what Doug has done has shown me ways to organize that I would never have thought of. I share Doug's thoughts on being clean, neat and organized in my garage and seeing what he has done is very inspiring to see it all in completed form. This video should be required to be viewed by all us garage guys on You Tube. I have shared this video with all my friends and we have all discussed it amongst ourselves. And then your other video "Garage Makeover - The Hardest Part Is Getting Started" is the next logical step in implementing some of the ideas from this video. Adam your workbench makeover turned out great. Thank you for sharing this great information.

I was glued to this video for the whole hour.! Doug has an excellent approach to problem solving and efficient working. What impressed me the most about Doug’s workshop is the fact that he came up with a lot of cost effective solutions instead of just choosing to spend big money on over priced systems that rarely cater for your exact need. Also great work Adam on putting this content together.

This video is so sophisticated. It's almost like garage philosophy. I've never heard anyone with such clear and precise explanations about the process we men go through in the shop environment. Especially at 8:40 when he explains that you enter your shop, then spend 15 minutes searching for a tool--then repeat the process again the next day. I have two speed squares and both of them have vanished somewhere in my shop, and I've been looking for 2 days now, wasting at least 30 minutes. His point about time wasted searching for tools is so important! What an inspiring video, and how dumb I feel now for not having a place for my speed squares.

Hinged grinders is my favourite hack. Grinders take up a lot of room (annoyingly at the front of the bench) and the hinge system is a great idea to keep the front of the bench clear and also make cleaning easy. My second fav would be the trailer hitch vices because of the same space-saving reasons (although the grinders win for the added ease of being able to clean under them).

@@td6608 Thanks! I'm interested, but how does it work? I don't know exactly what you are implying. Did you thread tap a side of the hitch receiver to allow a bolt to tighten the 2" "vice hitch" tube into a bind? No, your idea is probably faster. haha
@td6608
@td6608 2 жыл бұрын
@@cockerjc If you imagine the outer piece of trailer hitch tubing six inches long, cut a slit out about a half inch wide the full length then halfway along weld a half inch nut on one side and a bushing that the bolt will fit through on the other side of the slit. Then install the bolt through the bushing into the nut and as you tighten it it will pull the two halves together and clamp the inner piece tightly. I use a 3/4" wrench but I'm thinking if welding a 1/2" x 4" rod across the bolt heads so I won't even need the wrench. I have to look again but I believe I built one like this only with two pieces of tubing (upper and lower) and use one bolt for both. This way I can use either the upper if I want the vise higher or the lower (about 6" down) if I want the vise lower. I'd make a video but I don't have the guts to post anything.

THAT'S A WORKSHOP?!!! I thought it was a kitchen at first glance. The paint can shaker is a stroke of genius.

My kind of channel. Smarter not harder is what a few of the technicians I worked with used to say. You can’t always reinvent the wheel, but you can sure make it run smoother. Great video! KZbin is a giant class room.

I waited for Doug to demonstrate a cammed lock or clamp for holding his Layout table top still when not being slid open.....I musta blinked. His hinged grinders And the Trailer hitch tool mounts are Gold! I'm going to do the remote controlled shop vac 1st.

I really like the vacuum mounted to the garage door opener. Before I finished watching the video, I was already planning my own setup.

Wow. This is a treasure trove of ideas. Loved everything, especially tray to catch mess under band saw, floating table top with storage for long items inside, trailer hitch and door hinge mounted bench equipment, vacuum and air hose equipment mounted on ceiling, and so much more. Thanks for sharing!

Great ideas. To expand upon the toolbox drawer shadowing, use a contrasting color underneath the cutout layer to add more visualization to the missing tool.

That's a great idea could use different colors like red for metric blue for SAE. Yellow and green for phillips and regular screwdrivers. The list goes on. 👍

I second this, all the aviation mechanics I've met use this method to help really make missing tools stand out.

Thought I was going to skim through this and watched every second in awe. The best tip is having a place for everything and knowing when it is missing. My dad used to flip out when he only knew a tool was missing when he needed it. With 8 boys in the family, we were always borrowing his tools and forgetting to return them! Love the vac and air hoses on the ceiling out of the way. Thanks for sharing.

Tip: cut the foam in smaller modular sizes. Allows you reorganize a drawer, swap out if screwdrivers change, or move to a totally different drawer or toolbox.

Hey Guys - This Guy has one of the most organize, efficient, thoughtful, useful, most convertible, versatile workshops that i have ever seen!😮. I love the idea with the trailer hitches and the bent barn door hinges that streamline his work areas. GREAT JOB - THANKS FOR SHARING! I’m a Better Human Being after this video!👊

The stainless steel workbench is essentially what commercial kitchens are outfitted with. So check out a kitchen supply store or look for restaurant salvage. If you can catch a retail store being demolished, they will have heavy duty shelving and maybe carts too. Old discarded shopping carts have a ton of potential. Remove the basket but keep the handle and you have a sturdy dolly that could probably hold up anything short of a car engine. It's certainly capable of hauling around heavy bags of concrete and buckets.

My favorites - Pool vacuum hose, trailer hitch mounts for vises, and clean-up brushes mounted at each tool - idea... as it would reduce the chances of cross contamination of work surfaces and/or waste/trash. While I group my tools, your friend did a nice job of showing an excellent reason to use the foam - a reason that I have yet to hear others mention - a reminder to track down a missing tool, or a note to self, that you loaned it out.
