Thank you so much for watching!
Waking up to this beautiful and colorful nature is our long-awaited dream. Tropical flowers in bloom and butterflies flying over them.
We watch Daniel climb the coconut tree in the front yard. These coconuts aren't going to get any bigger, so today we're going to pick some.
This will be mama and boria’s first time tasting a coconut that was just recently hanging from a palm tree.
Coconut water tastes better when it's young, much sweeter than from old overripe coconuts.
Coconut trees can grow up to 30 meters tall and have a lifespan of about 70 years.
There are other varieties called "dwarf coconuts." They can grow up to 6 meters in height.
After a few minutes, our coconut climber tossed us some fruit.
Mama Lyn opened the coconut. And clear water poured out of it. Coconut water has many health benefits. It can also be a source of hydration if you are stranded on an island.
Surprisingly, in Russia in the old days they also used a wooden beater for washing laundry. It was called "valyok".
Often they were decorated with carving and painting.
The laundry was also placed as a clump on a board or wooden raft on the river and hit with this beater, beating the water out of it.
Boria watch Filipinos live out our average day. He told that it's like watching a movie, but in real time.
We live simply. We don't have flashy cars or big houses, but our faces radiate happiness. Simplicity is beauty.
My family likes to eat fruits and vegetables. Most Filipinos do. Boria thinks this is our secret to looking younger than our age.
I also cut up the watermelon. It tasted like a regular watermelon, but not as sweet as the red one we bought in the city.
Danica treated us to fried dumplings. They are called "siomai," which is a popular street food here. It's basically a thin dough filled with ground meat and some vegetables. They become even more delicious when dipped in soy sauce with calamansi.
Danica is the youngest sister in our family. She is studying to be a Filipino language teacher and dreams of teaching in a school here in Sual. She is smart and received several medals of honor when she was in school. She sings well and loves to dance.
Boria is relaxing in a hammock under a mango tree. The breeze is so refreshing and he has a beautiful view of the green leaves and pink flowers above him.
Mama is kneading dough to make scones. Yesterday we bought flour at the grocery store so she could bake something.
In the summer in Russia, traditional drinks like compote or kvass save them from the heat. And they decided to treat us with kvass.
It is very easy to make kvass with yeast, because there is no need to make bread sourdough.
This kvass differs in taste from the bread kvass, but we like it.
You can add berries, fruit, herbs, or honey to your kvass. We substituted local calamansi for the berries.
The kids and I showed Boria our favorite activity - climbing mango trees. I used to climb trees with my sisters when I was younger, too. The boys will climb and the girls will stay on the ground to be catchers. Our work is like a game. We have a great coordinated team. Boria said that he is not surprised that I am a good catcher, I caught him when he fell in love with me.
A few minutes later our plastic bag is full of delicious Indian mangoes. It is one of the popular varieties in the Philippines.
These fruits are called tamarind.
Filipinos like to eat green mango by dipping it in "bagoong," Boria is going to try that combination today.
I pick the tops of the sweet potatoes. We want to cook it with sardines for dinner. It should be delicious!
We went for a walk by the river again. The breeze is very nice here in the evenings. The fishermen start their way to the sea. We wish them a great catch.
This cute baby is pinching something in a tree. I went over and help her pick the fruit she was trying to pick. This fruit is called kamachile, also known as Manila tamarind.
The beautiful surroundings have plunged into darkness, but the day is not over for our family.
We are now making a popular street food called isaw. It is essentially chicken intestines boiled with soy sauce and various spices. They are then strung on bamboo barbecue sticks. Tomorrow we'll grill them when we go to the beach for a picnic.
While the ladies were busy, the boys found an interesting animal - a coconut rhinoceros beetle. It looks cute, but it is a pest here because it destroys coconut trees.
In spite of that, they let it go.
Roosters are the Filipino alarm clock. A sign of a beautiful new day. Mama Lyn and I woke up very early to get ready for our picnic. We are so excited for Mama and Boria’s first island adventure.
