Simple Loose Watercolor Sunflowers: Painting Tips and Techniques

this is an awesome painting, sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. I love the idea of a color example card, it really is helpful and takes the guesswork out of color selection while working on a painting. I learn so much each time I watch your videos. Often I watch them over and over again because I am a visual learner, they are so helpful to me. Thank you. 😊

I always for every painting create a swatch sheet, as well as I always have little scrap sheets available to practice values so I make sure and add them all into my paintings. The easiest way to create interest and depth in you paintings. Take your time with it, make it simple at first just get the petals and center part of the flowZ Once you feel comfortable with that, move onto adding in more colors. A tip , vary the “values” lightness and darkness of your petals for interest and to create depth YOU can do this! If I can you can 🌻🌻🐝

That's good advice to do a paint swatch. Often I forget which colors I used. Have you done a video showing the colors you have in your palette? I'm fascinated ❤❤❤

I have done one previously, although I was just thinking I would do another. Yes, I always play with a paint swatch so I can see how the paints look together, and make sure they are giving me the look and feel I want. It has saved me time on a painting that I end up not liking the colors! Its also fun to play with blending the colors, making sure the color palette is pleasing. I will do a palette video, as I have some good useful tips around that component. Great suggestion :-)

I have found metallics don’t have flow like regular watercolors.. play with the simple front facing flower make it simple just to play :)

Hi Debbie I bought some Windsor Newton professional paint in green gold but my green gold is nothing like the green gold you are showing. Yours is more brown …mine is like what the sample color that Amazon shows. (More yellow green). can you tell me why?did you use a more concentrated paint

Hi Carol~ this is the green gold that I use. Is this what you have. It is the only Daniel Smith paint that I use for that very reason, I Like the deeper green you can add a Paynes grey to yours and it may bring it closer to the darker green~ I Hope this helps It is also in my supply list on Amazon.amzn.to/43fcl7l

@@carolbrinkman9748 your welcome! Amazon is good about exchanging luckily. And always interesting to me how different brands have slightly different colors yet carry the same names. Makes it challenging. Also a note, different brands label the brush sizes and across brands a size 2, can be completely different in size! A 2 Princeton brush is completely different than a 2 Grumbacher brush. Strange! Happy you got the right one. Happy painting friend

@@carolbrinkman9748 GReat, if you used my link, it will be the same as I use on my palette, it is such a great color. I also add my flower color to my sap and olive greens if I run out of green gold. It creates a beautiful smoky green for shadows and darker areas in the leaves and stems, which ties in with the undertones of the flower. It creates a beautiful harmony between the flower and the greenery. Happy painting, friend! So happy to have you here with me.

Yes, lol. I have been trying to do just that! Never even knew I said that. As a newbie here on KZbin, Ive noticed a number of things Im not particularly fond of~ I also do not edit my videos therefore, many of my errs are for all to hear. Learning process for sure~ (btw, I had another woman actually count how many times I said "so..." I am very aware now of that little habit and doing my best to stop . Happy painting Olive.
