I can’t say I watched Supernatural with my mom, but I lost her in 2016 when I was 23. My 12 year old brother found her and me and my wife got custody of him. My mom left me with this song. Simple Man, from Lynyrd Skynyrd. A few days before her passing, I found this cover by Jensen Ackles. Didn't know Dean Winchester could've done such a beautiful and strong cover of this wonderful song. This song is so powerful. It's a prayer from mother to son. She used to sing this frequently, especially in those weekends when we had the most peaceful days. Just both of us, enjoying the weekend, cuddling, or cooking together, cleaning the house or even when both of us opened up the computer or the cellphone to spend time watching anything on KZbin. Or playing games, in my case. She had brain cancer. Spent a whole week hospitalized, in coma, before her body gave up. Worst part is, when she was in a coma, no one could be at her side. It was a public hospital. After all, we're poor. I try not to think that she died alone, in a hospital bed surrounded by people she didn't know. Then, in a saturday, August 13th 2022, 10pm, my cousin came to my house informing the hospital called to inform of her passing. At the same time this cover by Jensen played in my head. I've only held back my tears because my cousin was already crying. After she left, it was my time to crumble. It was slow, it was like my world came down slowly. Sometimes I miss her so much that I feel my heart being smashed and cut and stabed...I'm living with my family but it's not the same thing. It's a whole diferent environment and not the best for someone who lost the most important person of his life. I lost part of my soul. When it gets so bad, when I miss her so much and I feel overwhelmed with my family or the responsibilities of life, I hear this. It's like I'm praying and listening to a prayer. I listen to this to remind me of her, what she wished for me. To have strenght, to never give up, to always look up to God, to her, and to remind that things will get better and someday I will have the best life. A life with a job, a salary, a wife, kids. A simple life. As a simple man. And when I have my kids, I'm gonna sing this song to them. I'm gonna pass the prayer my mom passed to me.

This song was a big part of my childhood, and it’s some of what shaped me into the man I wanted to be. I've come back to listen to this song after they announced that Supernatural is ending after season 15. I hope the boys finally have a happy ending. I hope Sam and Dean and Cas keep on saving people, hunting things, the family business. And Cas keeps watching out for his boys and finally gets to be happy. And Jack can live happily with his dad's. Dean can teach him to drive. Sam teaches him about history. And Cas teaches him the importance of humanity. And years from then, the Impala will be sitting on the side of the road or in a junkyard, run down and forgotten. Sam and Dean are happy together in heaven with Mary, John, Charlie, Kevin, Ellen, Jo, Bobby, and Jess... Even Crowley is there. Rowena will be there too, and she'll tell Sam that she forgives him. She'll tell him that he's a hero and she couldn't be prouder. They will be forgotten by all, except the ones they saved. The little kids who had their closet monster defeated will treasure Sam and Dean for the rest of their lives. The angels will admit that Sam and Dean were right all along. But Cas won't forget. Arden Campbell. Damn. This is kind of beautiful. And really painful. The imagery of the Impala sitting alone and forgotten somewhere is just heartbreaking! But like you said, even if the world forgets them, they will always be remembered by the people who's lives they've saved, and the few who know the truth, that they saved the world. And it's the same with the show and Jared and Jensen. They will always be remembered by the people who's lives they've touched. The SPN fandom and the family that's been built around it will never truly end, because it will live on in our hearts. As for the end of the show, I just hope the brothers find peace. They've given so much of themselves, lost so much, and they can never seem to catch a break. I want them to have a win, a real win with no strings attached, no repercussions, no bad aftertaste. They had better give our boys a happy ending, even if it's bittersweet. Whether that means passing on the family business to younger hunters they've trained, retiring, and growing old and crotchety together, or going out in a blaze of glory and going to heaven for good. But live or die, they have to do it together. The worst ending I can think of is one of the brothers dying permanently and the other being left alone!

A small story i have with this song: On September 5th 2020, it was just me and my brother Scott at home. I was working on math homework and he was cooking himself something to eat while also making me listen to his favorite songs, a lot of which were just "omg turn this garbage off". He had gotten into Supernatural, courtesy of me, and really liked Dean, and Scott always reminded me of Dean because they had some stuff in common. So I told him to play this song because Jensen sang it and he had never heard him singing. After the song was over, he said that it was a good song and was impressed by Jensen's singing. I was just amazed at his reaction. Then came the next night, when I was given the news that while my brother was out riding four wheelers with his friends, he had flipped over and wrecked. I spent the whole week catching back up so when he got out of the hospital, we could watch Season 4 together (he had just finished Season 3 and I was catching back up). All I wanted was to just see him again. September 14th 2020 was the day I had to say goodbye to him after a week and 2 days in the hospital. The entire ride back all I did was listen to Jensen, switching between this song and Sounds of Someday, just hoping that wherever Scott was, he could listen with me. When we were making plan for the funeral, my parents were wondering if they should play Simple Man. I immediately told my parents that we should, but it has to be this version. It meant more than just Scott living the simple life the best he did, it was to remind me of how amazing that last day we spent together was. To my surprise, when the song came on, I cried both tears of sadness and tears of joy, knowing that in just the 20 years my brother lived, he became the simple man I knew he would be. I still cannot hear this song while breaking down. I just hope that Scott is listening with me. I still think back to that last night we had, and am more grateful he was in my life the way he was. As Castiel once said, "The point is that they were even here at all and you got to know them. When they're gone, it will hurt, but that hurt will remind you of how much you loved them." I’m gonna sing Eye Of the Tiger..” he started, the DJ began to start the music, but dean locks eyes with Cas. “Actually,” he picks up the guitar, “I’m gonna sing a song, my mom sung to me sometimes when I was younger.” He turned, then strummed the guitar. “It’s called Simple Man.” Sam began clapping, leading the bar into an outburst. Once dean began playing, the bar went into utter silence. “Mama told me, when I was young, come sit beside me, my only son. And listen closely, to what I say. If you do this, it’ll help you, some sunny day.” Dean looked up quickly, to see Sam’s face blank. He must’ve never known mom sang this, he was only six months old.. “Oh take your time, don’t live too fast. Troubles will come, and they will pass. His life had become anything but simple. The song for him was a tribute against his mom, because all his mom wanted was for him to be a normal person. If you can.” His voice cracked when he said can, and he looked up to stop the burning in his eyes. Cas was now staring at him the same way as Sammy. Dean hugged Cas, who hugged him back. Dean opened his arm for Sam, who joined the hug. They stood like this, until deans applause died down, and they didn’t say another word until the next day at the bunker, where th mood was calm, and peaceful. hours of nothing, but complete understanding of the silence. It was like this, Dean on the couch, watching the fan spin in circles. Cas in the library, watching dean. Sam on his laptop, glancing at the two every now and again. Finally, Sam was the one to break the silence. “So get this,”
