Great information. My brother used to grow Coleus. I tried propagating them from leaves found but no success. Now that I know about the nodules, I know what to do! Thanks so much. Kiss the ground in Texas for me.

I got red Coleus cuttings to start showing 1cm roots from every node within 4 days in a DIY aeroponic/dwc hybrid cloner, and on Day 13 I can barely see the stems and the roots are between 3-6 inches long! 4L tap water pH down from ~7.8 to ~6.0 Clonex (half strength first 7 days) Rooting hormone (full strength) Keeping them in a separate identical setup because of how well they are doing, I've never seen a plant root like this before

So you should wet the potting soil and then immediately water the cuttings after potting? I'm just always scared to over water because I've killed many plants that way
@DIYHGP6 жыл бұрын
Dea, yes because the plants have no roots, more water is better than none, since they will grow in100% water a moist soil medium will certainly help them to grow roots.

Well done , If I root it in water, I can also use hormone before putting in soil ? Or hormone use without water rooting ?

Love ur video!!!! What size are the green pots ur potting in? How long generally to see signs that the roots are progressing? ( with grow lights) Is the soil a general potting mix with Sphagnum peat moss and do u add extra perlite? Once potted just keep them moist, correct?

Coleus can grown indefinitely in water without stripping all the leaves. I've had mine 5 years now, never in soil just filtered water and substrate at the bottom of the jar.

Hello, thank you for this video! I've always wanted to see how to properly propagate coleus and this answered all of my questions. I do have a suggestion/comment though: please turn the music way down, or better yet, not use music at all while you're doing the demonstration. The music is way too loud, distracting, and makes it hard to hear what you're saying. This would be really helpful for your viewers! Thanks!

Do they stay in your greenhouse until spring? I am gardening in zone 6a Indiana, should I bring my cuttings inside? No greenhouse
@DIYHGP3 жыл бұрын
Typically you cannot winter them over in the greenhouse as long as it stays warm enough

I don't know what zone you are in but I am in Canada zone 4. I have several coleus I would like to take cutting from. For my zone when should I be doing this right now they are still looking good, but the weather is starting to cool off. Also my greenhouse is not heated so I will have to bring them indoors for the winter, would they be ok in a window or do I have to have them under grow lights all winter long?
@DIYHGP5 жыл бұрын
DOROTHY, coleus are a real survivable plant as long as they get sunlight and don’t freeze they should grow roots so anytime before they freeze I would take cuttings.
