It happened last week. My mother was in the nursery home in the Netherlands, she is 90 years old and in the last days of her life. My wife and me were in the car, coming from Denmark on our way to the Netherlands, to make sure to be in time before she passed away. When we were half an hour on the road, we got a phone call from the nursery home, that my mother just passed away. We did not make it and were too late. I pulled the car aside on a parking lot, and just when we stopped, the Simple Minds - Alive and kicking was played on the Danish radio. Just on the exact moment that we heard that my mam passed away. My wife and and me hugged each other and bursted in tears. I miss you mam, R.I.P., be alive and kicking in heaven.

The 80s had the best music. There were so many different genres. Musicians actually played musical instruments, singers actually sang, no auto tune. No misogynistic rap crap. The music was danceable and fun. What happened??

I'll be 60 years old this year. I've lived almost six decades and yet, the best music still came from the 80's. And there's not just one powerhouse group. There were dozens and dozens. Simple Minds may have been just one of many but they were never just Simple Minds. Their music rocked stadiums, night clubs, and many private parties in the Air Force dorms. We had the best music, the best clothes, and the biggest hair. Never been another decade like it. Never will be.

+JOHNNY .BOY I couldn't have said that better --- we were blessed and there was a special sound about great music that was made in the 80s that you can just know that is the decade it was pressed to the album. I was born in 65 and I used to sit during the 70s with my 45s and play them for hours. Remember the little plasic thing that you used to have to put into the middle of a 45 so that it could play on a 33 turntable? Well, if you want to have some fun, find one of those and show it to a kid of the younger generation today and ask if they can figure out what it is for (lol) --- Keep listening to the choice music, friends. I'll see you around the videos.

You turn me on You lift me up Like the sweetest cup I'd share with you You lift me up Don't you ever stop, I'm here with you Now it's all or nothing 'Cause you say you'll follow through You follow me, and i, i, I follow you What you gonna do when things go wrong? What you gonna do when it all cracks up? What you gonna do when the love burns down? What you gonna do when the flames go up? Who is gonna come and turn the tide? What's it gonna take to make a dream survive? Who's got the touch to calm the storm inside? Who's gonna save you? Alive and kicking Stay until your love is Alive and kicking Stay 'til your love is Until your love is, alive Oh You lift me up To the crucial top, so I can see Oh you lead me on, till the feelings come And the lights that shine on But if that don't mean nothing Like if someday it should fall through You'll take me home where the magic's from And I'll be with you What you gonna do when things go wrong? What you gonna do when it all cracks up? What you gonna do when the love burns down? What you gonna do when the flames go up? Who is gonna come and turn the tide? This one does it for me, every time. One of the best moments from the 80s, and such a classic! The lead singer's tremendous vocals, his inflections, and then Miss Diva shows up and hammers it even further. This speaks to my youth when I was hanging with some of my best buddies who have already left this realm -- Cedric, Heidi, Joyce, Ricky, Michael -- I'm still alive and kicking you-all, and remembering when!

Born in 87 with much older Gen X sisters so I appreciated 80s music much more than music that released during my prime. At times, I wish I was born in the early 70s so I could've seen this stuff as it released. Would make seeing today's pop culture that much more painful though.

2024 and I'm still loving this song. Simple Minds was such a great band! We had the BEST music in the 80's. I actually feel sorry for kids these days. They get to hear it...they just don't get to experience it like we did. This song always takes me back to a very special night in the 80's, about 1am on a Sunday morning, cuddled up in a Toyota 4x4 with a really cute guy that I went to school with. Ahhhh...what a night and WHAT A TIME!!
