It happened last week. My mother was in the nursery home in the Netherlands, she is 90 years old and in the last days of her life. My wife and me were in the car, coming from Denmark on our way to the Netherlands, to make sure to be in time before she passed away. When we were half an hour on the road, we got a phone call from the nursery home, that my mother just passed away. We did not make it and were too late. I pulled the car aside on a parking lot, and just when we stopped, the Simple Minds - Alive and kicking was played on the Danish radio. Just on the exact moment that we heard that my mam passed away. My wife and and me hugged each other and bursted in tears. I miss you mam, R.I.P., be alive and kicking in heaven.

+JOHNNY .BOY I couldn't have said that better --- we were blessed and there was a special sound about great music that was made in the 80s that you can just know that is the decade it was pressed to the album. I was born in 65 and I used to sit during the 70s with my 45s and play them for hours. Remember the little plasic thing that you used to have to put into the middle of a 45 so that it could play on a 33 turntable? Well, if you want to have some fun, find one of those and show it to a kid of the younger generation today and ask if they can figure out what it is for (lol) --- Keep listening to the choice music, friends. Simple Minds - quietly one of the best bands of the 80's era. You just don't realize how big this band was until you start listening to all the hit songs from this time frame. I am on of their biggest fans - graduating HS is 1987 - I still have printed on my checks "ALIVE AND KICKING"........and will never change that!!!!
@Meowbay3 жыл бұрын
from '66 too? I am. I too write "alive & kickin'" here or there every now and then ;-) I agree, it's in hindsight that you realize how good much of the 80s music really was. Amazing. Nothing like it.
@saraswatisky31192 жыл бұрын
I graduated in 1987, too. But, I wasn't a fan. I was more into U2, Madonna The Cure, Susie and the Bianchi, Duran Duran. I heard this song a lot, but it didn't stick. I guess, I was more into pop. INXS. I loved them and The Violet Fams.

I'll be 60 years old this year. I've lived almost six decades and yet, the best music still came from the 80's. And there's not just one powerhouse group. There were dozens and dozens. Simple Minds may have been just one of many but they were never just Simple Minds. Their music rocked stadiums, night clubs, and many private parties in the Air Force dorms. We had the best music, the best clothes, and the biggest hair. Never been another decade like it. Never will be.

As we age into our late 40's, we begin to realize that we are aging, we do not have the same energy that we once had, we also begin to reflect on the past, and most of us long for a simpler time, a time when we had youthful energy, and the only thing that we had to fear was Russia and their nukes In our later years, most of us begin to reflect on life, and most of us would much rather return to the years of our youth. Every generation goes through this, every generation thinks that the music of their youth is the greatest music ever. Oh, how I would like to return to 1988 when all I had to worry about was English class. Now I am 49 years old, and I make $70,000 a year for driving a truck/lorry. My home is debt free, my only child is now 25 years old, life is much easier, but somehow, I long to return to the times when I was absolutely broke, but I had youthful energy, and above all I was YOUNG. Now, people who appear to be in there 30's call me sir.....probably because my beard is mostly grey. I do not feel almost 50 years old, but I am this old, and I am starting to look the part.......so fuckit, I will adapt.

Appalachian home Girl - I turned 40 in February, still can't believe it as I type this. But yeah, I used to record the chart show on a Sunday in UK off radio onto tape to play back, then moved onto buying cassettes & gutted when my Walkman chewed it up! I broke open one cassette, stapled the broken tape together & slotted into a new open case. It was borrowed off my mates sister & had such cool stuff on, I was so scared if never hear or track down the music on it again, coz blank tapes rarely had track listings on them. Wow, how things have changed.

I'm 50. Do you realize how they inserted what is commonly called a chemtrail above the drummers right shoulder at approximately the 2:45 mark? That was absolutely not there when we were kids watching this on MTV. If you don't know about chemtrails Google it. Bad stuff. They are inserting these trails in movies, videos, etc. to try and convince kids today that what they see in the sky is normal and has always been there.
