Such mellow and polite guys, Jim with his stammer but he sings like an emperor.

Wonderful interview. Derek is an amazing bassist! And Jim’s stutter was present at this time. He got over it. 👍👌

They just always knew how good they where. Those first albums are incredible. I first picked up a bass at 16 because of Derek. 1979 To see Derek and Mick play again would bring me great happiness. I fear there is more chance of seeing Elvis play again though. One of THE greatest bands ever.

I saw an interview a few years ago in which the band were almost apologetic for the first few albums. Jim said they were derivative and poor imitations of kraut rock. Personally, i prefer the synthpop albums to the rock releases

@@meangradin Me too. Can't understand why they would think like that. Sparkle in the Rain was just about bearable with a couple of good tracks. Everything after that was just stadium rock. Empires and Dance, Sister Feelings Call and NGD were great. In fact I'd say NGD was the pinnacle of their creativity. A masterpiece and brilliantly produced by Peter Walsh. I think it was their stadium rock stuff which was derivative.

@@meangradin.. I think their thinking has changed. Which is why they did the 5 X 5 Tour a while back (that would have been the gig to attend).

If they were promoting the album 'Empires and Dance', this interview likely took place in 1980.

They were the greatest band on the planet from 80-81. Amazing. Never recovered from losing Brian McGee.

Jim actually looks like Gary Numan here. They look so young and are clearly a bit shy.

How can anyone think this was circa 1983 when they are promoting Empires And Dance which came out in 1980?

I was obsessed with SM and particularly Jim Kerr, I thought he was beautiful. There he is rather tasty. Ive no idea what accent hes fkn speaking in tho. He goes from Scottish to Irish to American 🤣🤣
@angiepanjie2 жыл бұрын
Almost sounds like he had a slight stutter. Very staccato speech pattern here.

It’s there still very slightly. I listened to another recent video and I can hear the wee gaps in words. Nowhere near like it was though. He did have a weird accent in this interview too😁…that’s away now.
@glenndouglas8822 Жыл бұрын
@@angiepanjie He as had a very bad stutter all his life, that's the reason he sings as it was part of his therapy to help me get rid of his stutter at school. That's why his accent can be all over the place at times. Hope that helped 🙌✌️🎅

@@glenndouglas8822 that makes sense. He’s achieved so much in life hasn’t he. He didn’t let it hold him back.
