It's more of a cover than a remix, really. The original keyboards, sound effects, Derek's thumping bass and Brian's drums, Charlie's guitar, everything really makes this song amazing. I do like it this. but..

If the comments below are truly from the one and only mickmacneil we are privileged. When queen lost there lead singer, they were described as a ferrari without its driver. When simple minds lost Mick and Derek I would describe Simple Minds as a Ferrari with underinflated tyres. Makes no bones about it, the lead singer holds the band together but the word BAND means BAND and any one missing member will have an impact.

I agree, i wonder if anyone contacted each other for X5 or perhaps just a respectful silence between them. BUT with T in the Park just round the corner do Mick and Derek now have some nostalga and would like one last blast with a session at T in the Park?There does seem to be a quiet respect amongst all parties. you never hear them disrespect each other talents. Thats never happened between them.Lets hope the respectful silence is ended by someone making a call and at least joining forces for T
@gazzadude112 жыл бұрын
Here is a thought, if we have simple minds at T in the Park for 2012 and if we could also get XSM on stage 2 then when no-one is watching cross wire the equipment and then we will have a complete simple minds reunion with no arguments from Jim Kerr or Derek Forbes ha ha

Remixes are meant re-invent, re-interpret, re-engage, re-invigorate, re-imagine - lift and highlight different elements of the original track. Sadly, this does not do any of this.

actually it's a great and versatile track that loses nothing in its "pure electronic" metaformosis. Forbes bassline it's the track's core and nevertheless the piece remains valid even without it, demonstrating how great this track is

@surrealfunfair12 жыл бұрын
this is really sad. it's a good example for a cool song being turned into something that sounds like everything else, into something totally average. the uninspired BD on steps 1/5/9/13 in the very beginning were already enough to make me dislike the whole mix. listening to the whole thing didn't change my mind.
@sondorp12 жыл бұрын
Think Moby might make a remix of his remix...he did that with his last CD...version sounds cool, but could be better still...who knows... If never is never you shouldn't say never is never....

Mick says lipsons 91 version is best, original is best for sure. Missed a trick not reuniting the band for the X5 shows, completely relevant opportunity. If SM continue without Mick & Derek, so be it, it just seems inappropriate/wrong to focus live material around the 'classic' era without the classic lineup who were responsible for those compositions. If they've truly moved on from the classic era lineup wise, why play 'their' music!!!

Its a good attempt, but you might as well have taken Digital by Joy Division and removed Hookey's baseline!! It's really just a Moby track with TFGC layered over the top.....5/10 for trying 🙄

A waste of time, god his keyboards sounds so pompous, and yet that's what many said about simple minds... 90s technoheads sure could teach 80s new wave bands a thing or two about pomposity.
@andyj6392 жыл бұрын
Um not bad but the extra oommf on the keyboards doesn't compensate for the lack of Derek Forbe's brilliant original bassline and no overlay guitar work either. Bit bland tbh. 6/10

I see the intent. However it does not reflect the quality and uniqueness of the original

Absolutely destroyed a classic. That annoying drum beat at the intro, a sign that Moby was going to have his ego trampling the original beauty of the tune. It's like he listened to the original as he decided to make his own version then just overlaying it on the original. The original is a thing of ambient, soaring beauty, with a bassline to die for. Moby simply thrashed it. I get a headache listening to this version.

...what a fuck....He totally destroys the atmosphere of the 80s!...
