I totally agree with you. I'm very fond of Simple Minds and i listen to their band every day since 1985... Michael is a great Keyboard Player for ever more. I was so sad when he left Simple Minds in 1991.

You nailed the sound! As a synth guy snd a Simple Minds fan, I salute you. It sounds like three sound layers - the Rhodes piano, the choir, and I'm hearing an analog style bass.

You guessed it! The piano is the simulation of the CP 80 they used at the time.

Haha! yes the sound seems very very close. Unfortunately I don't have any score of this I just listened and tried to reproduce, however if it is useful the chords are B A D E and in this version he plays almost exclusively the fifths at least on the B and the E without the third, a very recurring characteristic in his style
