Simple Minds have been musical pioneers for 40 glittering years. A "pop" song going in 3/4 time signature is not easy... Counting 1-2-3-1-2-3.. and in the original version with Mel on the drums keeping a steady beat together with Derek on bass.. masterpiece.

Hmmmmmm - I'd perhaps gently point you in the direction of Yes, Genesis or Rush. Many times Rush (e.g Limelight) will go through 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 in the same song and yet you don't even notice because it's all just so well-oiled and the talent is so far off the scale. Then try doing the bass, all the vocals and keyboards simultaneously......Now THAT really is not easy. 🙂

I'm not surprised they didn't attempt this masterpiece live (with vocals) and (opinion coming from two musician friends), this song isn't easy in ANY shape or form. A masterpiece of a song, near impossible song as well. I don't hear Mel Gaynor's impossible drum sequence, nope most musicians wouldn't touch this song live at all.

Nailed it! It is and always has been, for me, their finest song! Soaring guitars from Charlie Burchill, 'freight train' vocals from Jim Kerr and how do you fill a song to the brim instrumentally as they did with WHD!

It's not the original. But I really like it, all the same. It's a reinterpretation. Songs can go stale for a band if you just keep trying to slavish copy the recorded version.

First of all, it's not White Hot Day, it's Bass Line. Second of all, it's a great version. Charlie, Ged and Andy deliver what I reckon is an excellent modern version.
