Total respect for what you do. Pure advices, no bullshit like "my aunt back in 1999...." Just straight to the subject. Thank you!

I'll give the no amp method a try. I've heard people spending a year doing this to even out their playing, but it's not as fun as plugging in. The lack of discipline is real for me. heh. I normally play with high gain, but lately I've been doing my exercises and improvising with the volume knob rolled close to off on my guitar (while my amp is still set to high gain). I find that it really highlights when I don't play notes for their full value/unwanted staccato, and the unevenness in my pick attack.

I can't ever hit the A and D strings together without hitting the G string and it's always so prominent when it hits cause I play with distortion😭😭😭

I keep hearing people making a distinction between "slow practice" and what you call "threshold of hand synchronization". I always thought everyone understood that's what slow practice meant. After all, why would you practice at a speed that you've already mastered? 😅

A lot of rhis sounds kind of against the grain ... but im going to give this a go ... and let's see if at the end it translates into faster learning curve as it professes...

Actually I've watched many guitar videos from different instructors and they all say the same thing as Mike with regards to Slow and fast practice. This tells me that the methods being described works.

Your explanation will lead to over picking which is audible in your playing. When you shred it's sounds like some notes go sharp because you dig in too much. The right amount of pick depth will solve that. When you're in sync you'll feel it whether or not you use 1 or 1.5mm pick depth. But the sound will be better when you use the appropriate picking depth. Moreover, you shouldn't feel your forearm muscles at all. If that's the case you're using your arm to pick not your wrist. That's fine if you can handle it but we'll all get older and at some point you won't be able to keep up the speed anymore using your forearm.

Biggest problem is nowadays that people watch these videos instead of playing. James Hetfield never "practiced". But played songs. And he has done good.
