Through an outlet port on the cylinder back through the directional control valve then to atmosphere through a port in the dcv

To simplify what the other guy said on the blue block where the guy is toggling that switch back and forth there's two other holes on the blue block. Those act as an exhaust in this case. And the air escapes through there when the switch is toggled to the other direction.
