if they use pulse length for floor selection it wouldn't be too much more complicated, at least in terms of signalling the floor select line would be the call line, you wouldn't use a button panel but an item frame, the reason I say pulse length is because there isn't a survival friendly way to send signal strength information vertically or at least not without lots of redstone dust and comparators, the locking piston will have to be not in line the engine, that way you don't have to worry about the elevator stopping at the wrong place, or keeping track of timings, with a variable timer (works for quarries where you know the rate at which the delay length will change, not so much for an elevator where its UI decided)

Pre 1.11 there was no way to, but now you just use a double pistion extender at the top, and bottom. (the door has to be made out of glazed terracotta)

It's simple, just use T-FlipFlop to detect when the elevator has reach or is leaving the platforms (copy/paste the same mechanism for top and down). Then connect it to piston door (sticky piston + fences)

Does it work in 1.14.4? Yes, it does! If the downwards sending system doesn't work you might haven't put an item into the dropper. That's what caused an error in my system :)

You could add doors by adding a redstone block at the top and bottom so say if the elevator reaches the bottom the redstone block could power redstone that opens doors. You could add music by having a dropper in the elevator and a music box and a redstone block in the shaft so when the elevator goes past it could power the dropper and play music

Considering the start/stop mechanism, maybe, might be difficult as the flying machine is at a different state at each end, but it could just be a matter of what blocks you update to start it and when. at least in theory, in practice, no matter how you do it, the 'floor selector' system and the middle floors are going to most likely bulk it up considerably. though if you are okay with limiting it to 8 total floors you might get away with the selector panel being 2 visible blocks, an item frame and a button, maybe a 3rd 'go' button to hit once you're inside, tricky part really is an easy way to 'talk' between floors that doesn't require each floor to have its own dedicated redstone line, with minimal differences between each floor, a pulse length system might work, you can even use an observer chain for it, you would measure it from a t-flip flop, to call you would need to send the pulse length that correlates to your floor, then send the pulse length that correlates to the destination on the same line after you get on, I am sure there is a way to make a logic circuit that would decide what direction to send the elevator.

It didnt work for me either, but It turns out it was that the psitons weren't getting powered. Try powereing the redstone dust 3:44 or maybe just get red of the powered rail. Make sure to get rid of it though

Calling it takes a while, I'd be tempted to build 2 side by side, and have them both activate at the same time, going in opposite directions, so that there is always one ready and waiting to be used.

it's honestly just simpler to use a line of pistons in line with the second sugar cane block, with observers on top of them at the level of the third sugar cane block, solid blocks out the back of the observer, and restone dust behind the pistons (under the solid blocks), that way you'll get maximum efficiency with the least amount of resources and space

I had almost the same idea for this elevator, I'm trying to create a four-story version, with the difference that in this version I can go from any floor to any other floor, but I do not know much about redstone, I'm almost there, maybe Had seen this video before would not have been through so many problems, but to have seen later it made me happy to have an idea similar to that of a great redstone user :D And thank you for talking about the terracotta being unaffected by slime blocks, it was really annoying to build with furnaces

Great design but it had to be rebuilt several times (at the start) because it isn't clear if you're building the front / back / left / right of the cabin from 2:00 to 2:40. It would be helpful if you built it into an existing shaft to be clearer.

I finally made that elevator in my world in a 33 floor tower, containing 4 elevators and 2 stairwells inbetween. They stop every 7 floors or so. (The ultra-realistic one wouldn't fit the small building footprint)

This is awesome! And works well! A lot better then most redstone elevator tutorials, however there is a slight problem. When the elevator descends, if your standing on the carpeted part, it bounces you up and down, and the more you descend the higher it bounces you, until you hit the bottom of the elevator and die. Other then that this is amazing! But if there is a solution to this minor problem I would like to know. Thanks!

Hi all! i have just successfully build this on Java 1.16 in my single player test world but i will not be using this design in my realms world since there are 2 things YOU should know before building this that @ilmango does not care to mention anywhere. 1. when going down you get a real stupid jumping effect when standing on the carped since there's slimeblocks underneath it. 2. when going up and standing on the front 2 pieces of carpet i occasionally fall through and get stuck underneath the elevator room (this might be a result of me building this on a laptop that's not powerful enough to render the elevator smoothly) EDIT: I have found a SOLUTION for my problems after trying some things out! To solve the before mentioned issues you can do the following: 1. remove all glass blocks that form the front wall or replace by unmovable object like terracotta. 2. remove the carpet and wool elevator floor 3. replace the wool with 2 more slime blocks making it a 2x2 slimeblock floor, put any movable block on all 4 slimeblocks making it the floor of the elevator. 4. remove the top floor level and make it one block higher
