SuperSprings great product. What durometer are these? Do you offer different progressive rates?
@SuperSpringsInternational5 жыл бұрын
Race Mentally hi! Not to get too technical but we use the term “density” as these are a micro cellular urethane vs “durometer” which is typically used when talking about rubber. As far as these Trailer SumoSprings, they are our lowest density or blue / any part ending in -40. In other application we make denser materials that are a black / 47 and a yellow / 54. Yes, they are all progressive springs and if you look at the weight ratings they express capacity at 50% compression. Hope that helps!

You mention more than once that these are not for overload purposes, so concerning wheel hop, would installing shocks not accomplish the same thing? My trailer already has shocks so I cannot say what the expense would be for those who don't to install them, but I expect that it would be similar if maybe a little less. I CAN tell you that shocks make a HUGE difference in trailer hop and tracking. From what I've seen these springs only come into play after a certain amount of spring flex, where shocks dampen bounce through the whole spectrum. Perhaps that could be a future subject, the difference between an overload spring and shocks...

I have a 2017 Keystone Carbon 364. GVRW at 17000. First time I pulled it loaded with a washer and dryer and Harley softail in the rear and with a 2015 F350 regular cab single rear wheel it was terrifying. Couldn’t go over 60mph or it sway like an improperly loaded car trailer. Seems like my camper should have had 3 axles. Heavy in the tail and on the tongue. I upgraded to a 2017 F350 crew cab dually. Big improvement but still more sway then I liked so I upgraded trailer tires from 10 ply to 14👍 way better but trailer still bounces like it’s to heavy for its springs. Next I installed the Joy Rider shock system and a wet bolt kit. Factory plastic bushings were shot with only 2000 miles. My trailer handles like a dream now however it still seems to heavy for the 7k springs and I recently purchased a can am side by side I mite barely be able to fit in the garage with the Harley . Regardless, I need helper springs or heavier springs. Mite have to get a hitch and pull side by side behind. If I ever get another trailer it’s gonna be a triple axel or entirely smaller and not a toyhauler and leave my toys at home. $600 seems really high. I’d think I could buy new and heavier leaf spring packs for less
@SuperSpringsInternational5 жыл бұрын
Wow Terry you have quite the setup! Sounds awesome! The price on these is more like $400, and install is DIY. With the discount code from All About RVs you're looking to be right at $400 out the door for spring over axle. New leafs are a great option, but of course, that's a much more involved installation. Additionally, you wouldn't be getting the vibration reduction, shock absorption, and sway mitigation you get from SumoSprings. Whatever route you go, we hope you journey better!! :-)

@geoffmooregm5 жыл бұрын
Doubtful. They are still a type of spring. The best route is using X Chocks. They actually act like a brake. Then add another pair of stabilizer jacks in front of the axle pair in order to take the spring out of the middle of the RV. They don't have to be as heavy as the ones on the 4 corners because you won't use them for Leveling.

Hey Jared! Enjoy all your videos-great job on this one. I’ve ordered and received two sets of the “black” heavier duty SumoSprings for our Jayco fifth wheel. However, the spring plate on our rig is 1/2” too wide for the SumoSpring clamp to fit over. I found out that Jayco, on some fifth wheels, is installing a wider plate to enable installation of shock absorbers. So, I will need to order four of the standard sized plates and replace what is currently on our rig. So here’s the question: have you ever taken a spring plate off for any reason? If so, what is the process (and BTW, my axles are below the leaf springs)? I’m thinking I need to raise one wheel off the ground, block up the axle so it doesn’t drop, then unbolt the plate and replace with the new one. Does that make sense, or do you have a better method? Again, thanks for all the great videos-so easy to understand and always helpful! Rick Ellis in Tyler, TX

Reduce the air pressure while driving the washboard. Make sure you carry a good, working compressor before doing that. It does help quite a bit. Also, finding the right speed will help (usually that speed is above the posted one).
@RaceMentally5 жыл бұрын
s k you already have this technology on your axles. You have a progressive rate built into your axles like these in the video. If anything you can try to add shocks. But torsions give the best ride due to the spring rate on compression and rebound.

@realamericanpatriots19195 жыл бұрын
As a mechanic, these are dampers, plain and simple. Most vehicles have "bump stops" installed from factory that help prevent bottoming out your suspension. These simply raise the "bump point" to dampen sway.
@SuperSpringsInternational5 жыл бұрын
that's right - similar to a bump stop, these come in as weight is applied. To your point, the design is to come in earlier to give support sooner. The big difference other than that is material. Bump stops are dampers are made from a dense rubber. They are there to prevent bottoming out. SumoSprings are made from microcellular polyurethane, and provide a progressive spring rate unlike rubber stops.

Race Mentally - So can you install these AND shocks? Or do these make shocks unnecessary? I’m trying to find something to help with our 40ft 5th wheel bouncing horribly out of control on the terrible California roadways. I was thinking shocks but these seem much easier to install so I’m considering them.
@RaceMentally5 жыл бұрын
Eric If we had a choice of one to go with I’d go with these vs shocks. The shock kits I’ve seen from factory are garage. If they’re a stud to stud straight shaft mount they’re engineered improperly and break often. Have an Artic Fox in the shop now with that issue. You would want an eye to eye type shock where bolts go through the rubber/urethane shock mount. Also, the shock valving is key to a smooth ride. We install a custom kit with shocks made for motor homes which have a higher force number to the velocity. This type of suspension add on in the video takes rate and doesn’t release the stored energy like a coil spring or leaf spring. A shock helps with the controlling spring rate/wheel loading on compression and rebound on a typical spring set up. This kit I see working as it should and very well. The only con on this kit I can see is possibly the springs weather cracking over time and or them wearing out from being over compressed and splitting. I’d want these on my trailer. All of my trailers are torsion axles though which act somewhat the same as this. Where in California are you located?
@erhodes3525 жыл бұрын
Race Mentally - Thanks for the info. We are in Sonoma County north of SF. We often tow through the East Bay (Oakland, Berkeley, etc) and the freeways are horrible. It shakes the 5er like crazy and makes stuff fly around and jar is in the truck. And that’s going 55-60 mph at most so not driving crazy. I know nothing will make it smooth as glass but I need to do something to help. For my sanity and the longevity of the RV.

As far as sway going down the road I would like to see you do a review on air tabs because I’ve heard nothing but good about them (except price). Just my opinion.

Does this help with chucking? That is the fore and aft movement. My 5th wheel chucks more than I like and I have been looking at these hoping it will help. I don't have enough room for air bags and I don't have an air cushion hitch.
@SuperSpringsInternational5 жыл бұрын
This will help with some of the chucking in the trailer. Most of that chuck however typically occurs when the weight transfers from the rear of the truck to the front of the truck. I have SumoSprings on my F250 in the front and rear, and that addressed most of the chucking - with no maintenance or air required.

True. I would weld a thick pad or bars to the frame, if I had to use them. On my trailer wherever there is a spring hanger there is a brace welded in the frame. However I find the springs are TOO stiff. If anything there should be one leaf for locating the axle and then air bags above every spring for variable load carrying capacity and then an automotive style shock to control oscillation. This would give a controlled ride rather than the bouncy trailer ride. Especially when empty!

I’m new to RV camping. I’v always tent camped but I’m getting older and no longer can sleep on the ground. What I leaned from my first year is that ALL RVs are junk. The dealers are horrible and will lie to you at every chance. Before you buy think about the cost of the truck, RV, gas and campground fee. You can get a room cheaper at Disney World for less than a campsite. That money you spent can buy a lot of hassle free vacations. And you won’t have buyers regret after you get swindled. Today’s RVs are so cheaply made they come apart on the road. They are dangerous and even the tires are called China bombs by experienced RV owners.

I hope you are able to get your issues sorted out. Some RVs are not as well built as others and a good majority of dealers struggle in the service department. I hope you’re able to see the side of RVing that is amazing.
