Nice video Lewis. I found that the stability and duty cycle are much improved, when using a small capacitance (20-80pF), by using 3 hex inverters in series.

I don't think you can totally discharge the cap because the 7414 will switch its output on at a voltage greater than zero to start charging the cap again. Love your videos, keep 'em coming.

I said in the video it neither fully charges nor discharges.

Not that I know of. To get a perfect 50% duty cycle square wave double the frequency and put through a JK flip flop.
