I see all the calls for a new boat. And I agree Mr. Skinner is more than deserving. But this is the “new boat.” In the sense I haven’t been following all that long and remember when this one replaced the prior one. Sure, this one needs some TLC, but I’ve always appreciated John’s “Common man” vibe and Uncommon fishing abilities. Not saying a new boat wouldn’t be nice, just saying John’s proved time and again, great fishing is more than the gear. It’s so much more about the fundamentals. That’s why I appreciate him so; he gives me hope. (And yeah, a-nother boat next season wouldn’t surprise me either).

Hey john, always warms my heart when you are out in your boat, being an owner of a leaky 85 17' sea nymph aluminum center console. Oh are all the comments for a new boat willing to send in donations, do they have any idea the cost of new boats these days. Just curious do you have a name for your boat. My boat model is the striper, my kids would call it the stripper, so thats its unofficial name since do not have a name on it. Thanks for all your videos, tips and techniques. Tight lines !
@JohnSkinnerFishing4 жыл бұрын
No name for the boat. It gets a lot of rude comments, but it does the job well. It's 46 years old but I've owned it for only 4 of those years. I've never been able to get paint to stick to the floor, which is now old enough that it needs replacing.
@Obxhatman4 жыл бұрын
Well everyone has an opinion about what they think is safe in a boat , the only concerned area he should have is the leak. The flooring can be replaced easily. The wiring of the sonar easily done as well. He feels safe in the boat and knows it so eh , rock and roll. I personally like better organization but i'm a kayak fisherman , every inch of space has a specific item for it. Oh the Hi vis line though. Even though I typically use Mono Stren Hi Vis Yellow or Hi vis blue. I do have to say that as far as visibility to fish , red is the best line to use for any depth below about 10 feet. I'll tell ya why. In the color spectrum as you go deeper , certain colors fall off of the spectrum making them virtually invisible. Red is the first color to go. Blues and greens are the last. Now , when it comes to near the surface depth , less than 10 feet , or say shallow flats , the hi vis blue actually helps because the sky is the backdrop for most fish attacking a target above them. The line blends in with the sky. In shallows , red would probably be highly visible and worst color to use.

Two nights ago, 30lb braid to 40lb mono. Hit real close to beach and took off. set hook, drag was loose enough for small stripers to have a run. I slightly torqued drag to limited the run and braid snapped/was cut a few seconds later. No let up from that run and drag was still plenty loose. Re-rigged identical setup and first cast was identical situation. This time line came back w/leader and the entire 2ft length was shredded. Obviously toothy creature.
