Since the mills do not rotate and do not produce any electrical energy, they could be cut down to increase the surface area that can be colonized by mussels and other organisms.

A 'healthy' environment, but how strong is it? How long before it's got the strength to survive really big storms like the previous inhabitants did? There's not a good way to tell because nobody documented the progression of the before and after. How long before the towers will be replaced/removed? Or will they be allowed to decay and become hazards to navigation? Very little of these 'systems' have been determined yet. Has there been any slightest discussion of the exit plans? Like who will be responsible for removal & cleanup, and what does that include? And - thanks for an interesting journey.

Nice backwater poon he looked great in that dark water... I had manatees scare me out of ten years growth one time... I was wading and 5 of them snuck in behind me and it was then I discovered it was a mating pod and they just started going nuts the males all jockey to mate with the female but very violently so I had 5 full grown manatees thrashing about in 3 feet of water right behind me! That was a rewarding day for sure I enjoyed watching the action it's pretty amazing that you can put your hands around some tarpon and put your hands inside the mouth of other ones!

The sound of the explosion by that big snook sounded almost identical to the sound of a 30"+ striper hitting a spook. This winter has been the coldest I've seen and felt in 5+ years John. The series of Arctic outbreaks have been crazy. I remember when there was a winter within the past 10 years that devastated Florida's orange growers and killed a number of snook, reds, and jacks. Lakes and ponds closer to the shoreline here in CT have been nearly covered with ice, which has been the first time I've seen it this early in the winter in 5+ years. This winter will probably mark the first ice fishing season in 4 or 5 years.

2010 was the big cold-related kill down here. The water in my back yard right now is about 58. I see readings of 56-57 at Sanibel. Supposed to be bright sunny today and then we need to get through one more cold morning.

Gaffs Top Sail Cats are actually very very good eating fish if you bleed them soon. Super clean, white meat - just cut the thin section of darker meat off. Basically fish and chips quality. They are slimy though LOL

Nice work in cold weather. I am surprised that you don't use snaps. For the past 3 years I've been using japanese Decoy snaps - #2 and #3. Swap baits out super quickly and almost no failures. Recently though I think the supply chain has affected the quality because ever since about a year ago I've been getting some failures when I never have in the previous 2.5 years. Usually when the fish is so shallow they can headstand and twist the bait/snap into the mud.

I'm starting to use #50 Tactical Anglers clips, and they work fine on the spooks I use. I'm just not confident in using them on small soft plastics yet. You might want to check them out because they simply do not fail, and now they make real small ones too. They are the standard in Northeast surfcasting. amzn.to/3DKqD8T

@@JohnSkinnerFishing thanks for the tip. I live in NEFL but I have been active on stripersonline long ago. That is when I first became aware of your books and started using those very snaps. However, I changed to Decoy japanese V #2 and #3 snaps due to some TacAng clip failures on overslot reds. I just recently caught my PD Inshore red 32.5" (strongest I have ever fought inshore) on light wire hook z-man jighead+ gulp swim mullet. In fact, all my overslots have been landed with snaps. I exclusively use snaps of some kind since maybe 2015 or earlier on all baits.

Some real nice fish! What a life you have made for yourself. Its freezing in NY. So, do you not like to use the regular jig heads for swimbaits when fishing for Tarpon and Snook? You seem to always use the weedless hooks. Why is that? Is it for more of a finesse presentation? Or what? Love to hear your thoughts Thanks
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing Күн бұрын
Wow that's a good question. I prefer regular jig heads if the water is slightly deeper, which here means 3 feet or more. The forward weight lets the jig fall straight down, so I can let it fall, twitch, crank, let it fall... The swimbait hooks are for fishing 3 feet or less, which is a lot of my fishing. In that case I prefer the distribution of weight on the hook which allows the bait to swim level. The tarpon fishing I do involves swimbait hooks even though I'm in 10-20 ft, but the fish hit high in the water column. My experience is a swimbait hook holds on a tarpon WAY better than a jig head, which they throw easily because of all of the weight being in one place.

@@Onewayto2024I grew up snook fishin in Florida. A lot of stuff for stripers and for largemouth bass also catches snook. I used to catch a lot with 6 lb test monofilament and a jig head made for crappie with a live shrimp pinned through the chin and out the top so the gold hook is just above their horn. As long as you have room to fight them without structure that is the best method for snook in the winter that I know of. My biggest on that rig was 38.5".

Very interesting video. I take issue with the term "Wind mill" though as these are "Wind Turbines", there is no grain to be milled (grinding, crushing or pulverising) or water being pumped, as with the traditional old wind mills. Trump was famous for using the term "Wind mill" to describe wind turbines. This video is interesting as the general consensus at leat in the UK is that ocean wind farms actually promote marine life growth around the bases and become a sanctuary for fish as the areas are not accessible for trawlers. These areas are then frequented by rod and line anglers and become great sport fishing spots, I assume you have some good fishing at this spot. Seabed recovery looks good in your footage after 8 years since construction completed. I'm glad you got your drone back!
