it may be because the clip is short, and when you speed it up, it essentially runs out of footage and goes black. so I suggest lowering the speed or finding a longer clip :)

You can also press the other composition option when the new composition button pops up, but I usually just look at the time frame at the bottom (in my composition) and change the duration.
