For my rigid heddle loom I went to my local fabric store and bought the thinnest flocked plastic tablecloth I could find and cut it the width of my loom. Now I never have tension problems when I use it along with a diy tensioning device using rods. The flocking doesn’t allow the threads to loosen. It’s reusable and if it wrinkles I use a pressing cloth over the flocked side and the wrinkles come right out with ease. Works great every time with no headaches.

Thank you so much for sharing this trick! I have struggled to get the craft paper to wind on the back of my rigid heddle looms, even when I have an assistant with me. I can’t wait to use this idea!

Great idea. I use the whole roll of craft paper. It lays on the floor and I put a full bottle of wine that I didn't like to hold the roll. For my latest weave, I have it hanging on a band under the loom (RH). I'm thinking of getting the corrugated paper for my 4-shaft loom.

Hi Sally, I have the corrugated paper and it is effective for the floor loom. Only limited use on a table loom, however, due to how much it increases the diameter of the back beam. Not sure what type you have for your 4shaft loom.

@@joolzmurray5751 Mostly empty in my house too - but I got several bottles of things I didn't think I'd like, so they have a bit of weight. Doesn't work with the roll now hanging from the loom stand.

@@elizabethsielaff3414 I haven't bought any yet. I have a LeClerc Nilus 45" - so probably enough room for the increased diameter. But somewhat expensive with an extra charge because of the length - so I haven't done anything yet.

When you really need extra help and you have something you can turn into a tool, I say go for it. If it looks silly, but it works and doesn't turn into a problem, then it counts!

Thank you for this tip. I can see how this works when the paper is nearly wound on but, at the beginning of the wind-on, most of the paper is on the floor so do you move the clamps down sides? Best wishes.
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova 4 ай бұрын
I cut my paper into shorter lengths so it's not usually hanging down that far. You could try the clamps on the sides, that would likely help.

Kelly, are those clamps about 6 inches (15 cm) 8n length? This hack seems to be just what I need
@KellyCasanova

Mine are sold as 9" clamps, I have a link in the description below if you want to see the exact ones I use to get an idea of what you might like. There are a lot of 4-6" clamps that are similar but I find the slightly larger size more versatile and have a little more weight to them.

Is the craft paper you use 30 lb or 50 lb?
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova 4 ай бұрын
I don't know about poundage as most things are measured in grams and kilograms here. The paper weight I use is 125gsm, if that helps!
@HelenMesserly
@HelenMesserly 4 ай бұрын
@@KellyCasanova Well, 125 grams is only a bit over a quarter of a pound, so I think they must use a different way of measuring. I guess I can just order one, and if it's not right, I'll give it to the grandkids to draw on. Too bad we can't all be on the same standard!
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova 4 ай бұрын
@@HelenMesserly The "gsm" means grams per square meter. That probably doesn't help you either 😆
