The most difficult thing I encounter while painting is knowing when to paint wet into wet and when not to. I've come to the conclusion that I will find the answer only by painting as often as I can and by trial and error. It also seems that large canvases would facilitate the endeavor. Watching your paint process has also been most helpful. If I get stuck I watch your videos. They are very inspirational.

Hi Patrick! I totally agree with you...practice! We learn through trial and error what works and doesn't work for us and for our artwork. Keep at it!

Love this painting and I could see your struggle from the beginning. A lot of thinking and going back and forth just validates my own struggles with the painting process some days, especially if it’s been a while since my last painting session. It’s like your brain and hand coordination need to build muscle memory for them to just start flowing with ease but with this style of painting I think the struggle is part of the journey to a well finished piece. Thank for continuing to inspire me with your work. I appreciate it more than words can express.

What size brushes do you use to start this painting. This is sometimes what I struggle with, using the right brushes. Are they natural bristle, catalyst polytip brushes.
@BettyFranksArt9 ай бұрын
I totally understand, Terri! I believe I used a 12 or 14 brush. I get them mostly at Michael's when they have a sale. I buy the acrylic brushes. I really like the ones with a silver handle (I forget the name and I'm not near my studio to see if there's a name on the brushes). Buy some large ones in round, flat, and filbert. Personally, I like to smoosh my brushes before using them! I don't like them when they're perfect. Good luck to you. You'll soon find out what you like to use!

@BettyFranksArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Paula! First, thanks so much for buying my online course!! I usually give my art about a week to dry--give or take depending on the time of year. Because I work in fairly thin layers of paint, it doesn't take too long to dry.

i always love how vibrant and colorful your paintings are Betty!! i find that i keep getting stuck because i am always drawn to the same 2-3 colors and then even when there is enough variation in values in my work, i'm unsatisfied with how little variation there is in the hues! my comfort zone is blues and greens, and any time i try something else i end up hating it 😩 does anyone have any advice??
@BettyFranksArt Жыл бұрын
How about just spending time mixing colors. Take 2 colors (that you normally don't use) plus black and white and create a variety of colors with it. Then expand to include 3-4 colors plus B&W. You might enjoy creating your own colors and then you can add them to your paintings.

Betty Franks is an intuitive painter. You can’t teach intuition. She’s a rich artist…she has an enormous studio, can afford whatever she needs….her color combinations are interesting and worth noticing…but if you look at 20 of her paintings in a row, they start to all look alike, so she has her own sort of formula. Art is for the rich, and it’s too bad, but that’s the reality.
@BettyFranksArt Жыл бұрын
Thank you...and, I'm going to have to disagree with you. I'm not rich. I started painting in the laundry room, then graduated to a single car garage. I now have a studio because I have worked hard these past 5+ years to create, market, and sell my art--so that I can have a large studio. If I didn't have a large studio, I still would be creating somewhere...anywhere. Because I love creating. The paintings I have created since 2018 all look alike (as you put it) because that's my style. I'm so happy I finally found my style that comes from my heart and soul. I'll continue to create like this until I grow tired of it. Then I'll move on to something else. I truly believe that thoughts become things. I dreamed of having a large studio for years. I'll continue to dream big. Wishing you all the best!
@vickiemartin6376 Жыл бұрын
If art were for the rich we wouldnt have starving artists. Imagination costs nothing. What a narrow minded view. I am poor as poor gets lol and I still create art.😢
