If you are looking for a modern, touchscreen, WiFi enabled car scan tool that can easily update and upgrade on the fly, the Launch 123i is for you! This scanner can read all the standard OBD2 codes and live data, but it can also read car specific codes on 4 modules of the car. The modules it can read are Engine, ABS, SRS and transmission, so you can diagnose all those individually, get vehicle specific codes (instead of generic) and view live sensor data from each module. I also like that you can run reports, have your VIN auto decoded and you still have physical buttons for navigation if your hands are dirty working on the car.

I pick up mine at a local pawnshop so I tried to scan my 2012 Avalanche it will not let me scan because it says I must enter the units serial which it all ready has the numbers entered when I try to enter it. Maybe it’s a faulty one….

One question, I’ve always had with these scanners is, there’s no substitute for a full PC system but in saying that Snap On retail a stand alone unit for about $6Kus - so what am I missing is it simply the brand charging huge fees or do they factually have better/more impressive functions? I own a base model of this unit which works fine for basic problems. ✌🏽🇦🇺

Depending on the model of the unit and the make of your car, you will be missing something.. in this case the scanner can diagnose 4 systems in the car in great details. The rest is basic obd2 functions available on $50 scanners. That’s enough for most hobbyist, basic repairs and some work related to the engine, transmission, brakes etc. if you need anything more advanced, you’ll have to look for a higher end scanner or dealer level software (which in most cases is not legal to own).

Did you try this on your 2 litre Z4? I tried a different scanner and it didn't list my car. I'm looking to buy a scanner
