It's no longer UA's plan to replace the 777 with 350. They 150 orders orders for 787 (with another 50 on option) tell us otherwise. They will likely eventually cancel the 350s that were ordered now 14 years ago.

Reduce the fleet types, reduce the cost to fly the fleet. It also allows for flexibility to reduce delays by subbing in extra aircraft.

I don't know much of the comercial aspects. But it is clear that the A350 is the most silent aircraft available, next to the A380 (which is no longer available). The 787 might come close, the 777 doesn't.

United never ordered the A350s - they inherited the order when they merged with Continental. They will likely convert the order into 321XLRs or something else from the 320 family.

Eventually they will get more A321, but not the A350. That order was prior the merge with CO. Having the B787-8-9-10 and B777-3ER. The A350 is not compatible with the fleet.

Not going to happen they just hedging their bets. They recommitted buying the 777 in the beginning of the year even after hearing the 777 won’t be available till 2025. They would have to retrain their pilots to fly the A350’s
