I believe I've heard something similar pertaining to a German soldier or soldiers being trapped in a bunker on the eastern front if I remember correctly for some years after the war but I'm pretty sure it's just a story but it could be true I've never looked into it myself

I've only ever seen about the group of soldiers on svalsbard who were part of a meteorological station who's radio broke. Apparently they exhausted their supplies by August 45 when some Norwegian sealers picked them up and brought them home. That eastern front story sounds like lore.

This happened to civilians too. A few years ago I saw a documentary about a man and his family who had fled deep into the woods in Russia during WWII and fled so deep they didn't know the war ended and it wasn't until the 1980s or 90s that they were discovered via helicopter and the living family members (so it was the children and then eventually one woman) lived there and twice a year or so she'd get supplies she wouldn't otherwise have access to dropped. It was one of those tragic yet somehow heartwarming and aspiring stories.

We had a " Forest Brothers" who were fighting Soviets till 1955.

Here in Montenegro, ex Yugoslavia, there was a former Chetnk fighter, Vladimir Shipcic, who hid until 1957 when he was officially cornered and eliminated by the secret police, although there are many uncertainties surrounding the claim (there is a supposed photo of him jumping from the cliff into a river made by one of the policemen) and theory is that he actually managed to survive and escape to USA. My grandfather told me that he once spoke with his cousin and when he asked him about that theory, he supposedly exclaimed "Of course he is still alive. Who do you think is sending me money from America?".

The last confirm Japanese holdout was actually a Taiwanese volunteer Teruo Nakamura who was discovered in Indonesia a year after Onoda. His story was way different. As a “volunteer”, when he returned back to Taiwan he wasn’t welcomed by R.O.C (reigned by Jiang Kai Shek then) because he was a soldier of colonial. He’s not even entitled for any pension and he died by lung cancer 5 years later.

The Warewolf guys are said to have stashed weapons and costly things in the mountains that I live nearby, and fought guerrilla up until some 1950 that soviets were paranoid about, along with czechia getting mad over the region. If i am not mistaken the soviet union on behalf of poland offered the soldiers a pardon and a deportation home, to eastern germany. I next time i go there i will try to find whatever remains, it would be fun. Hopefully nothing explodes.
