Carlos Hathcock aka 'White Feather' would eventually be credited with an official confirmed total of 93 sniper kills. But the true total was probably several hundreds more as the system for acknowledging confirmed kills was stringent in the extreme, as it required an officer and a spotter to be present when the kill was made. Notable kills: "Cobra" A sniper duel where Carlos shot through Cobra's scope and killed the sniper "Apache" who had a reputation for torturing captive U.S. Marines A NVA General at close range with out a spotter Killing a Vietcong Guerilla with a M2 .50 Cal Browning at a range of 2,500 yd, setting the record for the longest sniper kill at the time

How tf did this man not get a Medal of Honor
@This.is.not.Leanne4 жыл бұрын
I assume it’s because of how the Vietnam War was viewed back home. Unfortunately a lot of people at the time looked down on Vietnam veterans because they participated in a war that shouldn’t even happen at all.
@ffjsb4 жыл бұрын
Because he did not meet the criteria for it. Most of the time he was not in a position of being under fire, and when he rescued his fellow Marines out of the track, he was not under fire either. No disrespect to him, there's just very strict standards and conditions that have to be met to receive an MOH. Among the other awards he received were the Navy Commendation Medal and the Gallantry Cross.

at 7:40 where Hathcock was going to snipe the general he actually took a few days of slowly crawling through the area. He did an interview explaining this and said he was almost stepped on by patrols a couple of times. He definitely had the patience to crawl through the thick foliage for days to get the perfect shot off. He then had to crawl back out of the area without being seen which took just half as long, if I'm not mistaken. The efforts this man went through to do his job was badass.

@@andyfriederichsen I guess that's why the US forces made frequent incursions into North Vietnamese territory? South Vietnam didn't even have a legit government, there was heavy infighting, nepotism, cleptocracy and corruption within the South Vietnamese political elite. There was one coup d'etat after the other and none of those who came to power enjoyed any credibility in the general, overwhelmingly rural population. You also seem to lack actual historical knowledge: after the French colonial forces were ousted by the Vietnamese under the leadership of Ho Chi Minh all sides agreed in Geneva that a referendum should be held two years later over the reunification of Vietnam. Corrupt South Vietnamese supervised by Washington strategists violated those accounts and brutally hunted down political dissidents, since from the Washington POV it was preferable to have corrupt South Vietnamese in power, than a government that enjoyed great popularity, but was alignef with the socialist North Vietnamese liberation movement which managed to liberate Vietnam from the French occupation.
