Suggestion: when you get ready to buy fruit trees, get together with CRC to make your orchard. Split it, because you usually need two of each tree to pollinate each other. And one tree will feed both families.

Ms. Mel, don't forget to plant the tomatoes very deep, deeper than you probably think you should. Most of those 'stems' should in the ground. Peppers, just plant as they are. You'll be alright, methinks.

Fruit trees need 2 for pollination be good to go in w CRC between your houses. Take bottom leaves off 🍅 and plant in ground up to that point. ❤

Those pepper plants, bury to the first leaves and remove all fruit starts to get a good yield from them. Fruit trees dont produce "great" fruits for first couple years. So it dont matter it you buy them with fruit starts on them. I lants tge 5 tye lum trees 4 years ago, this is first year tgey flowered, and man they will get alot of fruit this year. So hwe have to build a cold fridge in our barn to kee the fruit good when we harvest. We have strawberries, blueberry, rasberry, peach trees, apple trees (6) plumtrees (2) and cherry trees.(4) Rubarb (4) i started the white pine berries last year, (looks like a white strawberry on they taste like pineapple. Aso on your tomatoe lants bury most of tge growth stem, to create stronver plants and keep the false branches cut off. Nice size freezer

Loved that Gary said Home Depot was his happy place. My hubby retired after 24 years from the Pro Desk. He was always bringing home tools, etc from the clearance section. Neighbors called him Mr Tool Time! We have a 600 square foot workshop/tool shed in the backyard that I call the mini Home D! My happy place is garden nurseries!

Gary, I just can't help myself! I see you are like me, you LIKE strawberries! I was born and lived in south Arkansas till I was about 28! Sadly we only had fresh strawberries for about 2 months each year (If we were lucky)! I retired about 19 years ago (yep, I am old) and moved to Costa Rica, mainly for the climate. One of the first things I had found out about Costa Rica was that they grow the best strawberries in the world! And a quart container will seldom have more than one partially bad berry, usually NONE! Now for the GOOD part of all this - They are available 12 months a year! Yep I said every day of the year you can buy freshly picked strawberries, and for half what they cost in the States!

Marigolds planted around the edge of gardens will keep deer and rabbits out. They hate the smell. You are going to need to eventually build a large tunnel greenhouse to get your plants started earlier and increase your growing season. You should be throwing your organic material onto a big pile (think grass clippings, any organic stuff from the house, paper, etc) this can be turned eventually with a backhoe. Look up Huglekulture gardens. They pile branches and such up and cover with grass and smaller branches and finally with grass. I'm not sure of the spelling but it will probably autocorrect during the search. the rotting material provides heat as well as organic stuff for things to grow.

The only state coffee is grown in is Hawaii, I think. However most fruit trees usually take a few years after transplanting to produce much fruit. So plant at least a few ASAP. Then add one or two every year until you have all you want. Some fruits do well near water so get a few with your neighbors and grow down by the pond.

As per depression era grandma: Buy 2 of each type of tomato/pepper plant and when they grow side branches, prune them and plant those as additional stand alone plants. Saves $$$ and increases overall crop. Family has been doing this for years. Probably works for other veg plants but tomatoes and peppers are what I’ve seen work for sure.

If you get a blue plastic barrel or something like it, you will have a way to mix native soil, topsoil and fertilizer to put in your garden. Bed preparation is key. If you don't have one yet a tiller is key. Breaking up the clumps in the garden is key. Mixing the soils and additives together are key.

I grew up with having pear ,apple and orange along with miniature lemon trees , we had 2 of each , the pear and apple trees 🌳 were the best at giving a big harvest , I'd sit out under the apple trees eating fresh pears 🍐 with limbs so full they bent to the ground , nothing like fresh fruit , our neighbors like it also cause we got paper bags full and gave them away ....... it was a good bountyfor many years. Mint is a good one to have around where you don't want spiders to stay around .

Correct on the depth of the tomatos, plant them deep in a "bowl" and as they grow push the dirt up around the tomatos, they will root through the stem making the tomato stronger. With all of the eggshells you have, after washing them, crush them up and sprinkle them around your vegetables, it them calcium and helps to keep slugs out.
