I guess a lot of people would say that living your life style is a hardship. But look at the beauty that each season brings. Shovel snow and then go on a snowmobile adventure and bring home fresh meat and make a meal with a lot of ingredients from your own garden. And thank you for the beautiful scenery of the wonderful state that you call home. 😎 From Live Oak, Florida

I have been in Alaska over 40 years and this year is not an unusual winter, this what we used to get 10-12 years ago. I think the Alaska weather is heavily influenced by Pacific and Arctic Ocean water temps., the El Nino and El Nina weather effects from the Pacific equator water have most far-reaching effects. Sometimes when we have the warmer waters there have been fishermen who have caught Tuna and Sunfish, warm water species. The pie looks great, it made my mouth water, I have treated Ptarmigan like beef. It is good cooked like a steak, with onions and mushrooms. A little A-1 sauce is great on top. Thanks for the video, I know you have worked hard with the snow removal, sometimes that's the most Alaska thing we all share.

Awesome video as always guys…. Here in Labrador, Canada when we get a ptarmigan crop that’s almost empty we blow it up like a tennis ball size and tie it off. When it dries it’s like a Christmas ornament…. Big tradition here for the Inuit. They also say if the crop is really full on all the birds you have stormy weather coming, the birds get ready to burrow for days if they need to.

That meal looked heavenly ❤️ Ptarmigan survive in winter by seeking out patches of low brush where they indeed scratch out a tunnel to the ground. Snow normally collects around the low brush in a way that leaves open cave / tunnel areas & they can still access the ground to look for food. It’s a good tactic to search for them around the brush patches since in winter they rarely travel far from their food/shelter sources 😊 their fluffy feet not only keep them warmer in extreme environments but they also function as a kind of natural snowshoe. They’re fascinating & very ancient birds that have been around for a long time. The appetizer looked great too - I was imagining it with a glob of kefir cheese to cut the spicyness! Lovely 😁
