Hey just so you know, red maple is much better than half the sugar content. Sugar maple is 40:1 conversion and red maple is 50:1, and that's on average, so individuals may be better or worse for both species. So don't hesitate to tap the reds if they're nice big trees. I also find the reds give a richer flavour. Happy tapping!

Oh I read last year it’s 80:1! Crazy! Now I’m looking it up and it’s saying 60:1. That’s good to know for other years that’s it’s not as bad as I thought! Thank you! I’ll pin this comment :)

Hint for cutting insulation: Use a 2x4 to compress the insulation before cutting. This will give you a straight line along your cut without tearing. Also, it serves as a cutting guide for narrow pieces. Simply run your utility knife along the edge of the 2x4. It works for both covered or uncovered insulation and every thickness. I've helped build over 180+ houses for Habitat for Humanity & have used this technique on every house.

Hi Biata. Thanks for sharing your newest project. Maple syrup making is a an annual business in several places in NS. My Dad used to collect syrup & boil it down at his woods camp. It takes a huge amount of work,sap and heat ( he used wood to heat the sap) to net a few bottles of maple syrup but the end result is very satisfying. You daughter is learning about nature and enjoying it from a great teacher !👍👍👍

Yes , shout out to all the talented and positive minded "can-do" women out there. They do exist. In my area , a lot of couch - people come at me with the innuendo of "how can you be so stupid to ride a bike in the winter? " My latest reply on that is "Do you tell that to the guy who rounds up your grass fed beef? " (As we prepare for "15 minute cities" anyway) . Eventually the shed will become an insulated recording studio for women to come play guitars and banjos on sundays.

You DONT have to insulate. All that you have to do is what you choose to do. It’s a storage/tool shed for heaven’s sake. It doesn’t have to be insulated unless you plan to put things inside that need to be protected from temperature extremes for some reason. You are doing a wonderful job. Have a great week. 😊
@SimpleLivingwithBiata Жыл бұрын
We’re thinking of turning it into a battery bank storage one day as well, so definitely worth the investment for now! But also, it will be nicer to work in during the winter 😍! Might heat it through the wood boiler! Thanks so much for watching Jeffery

It may be overkill for the shed, but if it may one day become a heated or living space, it's "good practice" to also tape over the staples that hold the VB in place. footnote: yah it takes a long time and is really annoying - been there ;-)
@SimpleLivingwithBiata Жыл бұрын
Haha I was wondering about taping the staples! We might use the shed as a battery bank one day and install solar! But either way, a heated wood shed will be nice ☺️

👽👍Hi. Just one question. If you cover the insulation inside with foil, won't the steam condense?Don't let your wall get moldy.🌼🌻🥀

I think the main concern is not doubling up the vapour barrier (other than to overlap the 6”) because the two layers will condensate but apparently not the one!
