Always love your videos man! I saw the 100M training plan you made. Following your weekly plan, where should incorporate strength training in the week? At what point in the training block do you recommend dropping it? Thank you so much for all your tips! Happy holidays!

Perfect timing Simon! Good advice for building out plans for the new year. Needed a reality check that I am not including enough strength and mobility into my routine 😅

Great advice, Simon! I have a question about the back-to-back runs. You suggest #1 being shorter than the #2. I do them the other way around. Can you maybe do a video on the magic of the back-to-back runs and how their structure affects the physiological adaptations?

Oh I see! For full clarity, I don't necessarily suggest shorter then shorter on back to back long run. Or both the same. Or longer then shorter. I might say it one way without thinking because it just ends up that way very often for me for practical reasons but I don't think it matters. I think also by default I often have a lower mileage day on mondays (or even rest day), so it feels like doing longer on sunday (and "shorter long run" on saturday) makes most sense, but I don't think it matters.

Hey Simon! Big fan of your channel! My wife and I have got into running through your channel and can’t thank you enough. I had a question with fueling, I use gels and have no issues. My wife it just doesn’t sit well with her, what are your thoughts on dates? (The fruit) she is looking for a natural alternative to help fuel her long runs.

Thanks! Glad to hear it :) Nora struggles a bit more with fueling than me actually so I can relate. First, practicing has helped her increase her tolerance in general, but gels and simple carbs remains an issue. She does well with gummies (or at least, better than gels) and things like tailwind. Dates is a great idea. Complex carbs and something solid. So for example if it was a race setting, trying mashed potatoes and/or ramen noodles. There's certainly a lot of trial and errors, but these are just pointers that help a lot of folk! Let me know how it goes!

Couple things: 1) The Lydiard Method of Training is a way to go. 2-3 months of base, 2-3 months of speed, 2-3weeks of peaking. 2) When doing speed stuff, don't forget fartlek. Great way to have fun on the roads. 3) Be careful about following training plans out of some book or web site. Those are a generic training plans. One should consider looking for a running coach to help guide you. 4) One must he realistic about what race you want to do. Going fromm a couch potato to an ultra runner in 6-monthd/1 year is only a Hollywood thing. If just starting, look at 5km or 10km races. Maybe a half-marathon at most, but I would defer that until later. In a year, if you are consistent in your training and racing, you could consider a marathon.

I and several of people I know went couch to 50k in less than a year using vert.run online coaching. We weren’t fast, but we completed it, uninjured, had a blast, and were hooked. I don’t believe in waiting until everything is perfect to live life… we would miss so many incredible experiences in the name of “ideal conditions”.
