I finally opened up the wallet just enough to have a few bills slip out of it. I dropped some money on a more efficient way of managing my home-heating firewood and my body will surely thank me. Today I show you how I'm migrating away from the wooden pallets that I've historically used for stacking and storing firewood in favour of some new IBC cages. Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) can be a bit pricey but if you keep your eyes on the lookout, you may come across some that are a good deal. For me, the amount of time I will safe by not having to build and rebuild the wooden pallet racks will be worth it, as will the single-touch firewood storage system I'm moving towards. By setting one of these 275gal/330gal IBC cages beside my wood splitter, I can now hand bomb the wood pieces directly off my splitter and into the IBC cage. Although I won't be able to get as much wood into one of these cages as I would if I stacked the wood neatly, the time and effort saved will surely outweigh any benefits. The way I figure is the wood will get more exposure to the air when loose packed as opposed to tightly stacked. I've got 25 of these suckers to fill up so I better get back to work. If you're wondering, my tractor is a 2012 Kioti DK40se HST and the grapple is a HLA 66" root rake with grapple. I love both of these tools and they get alot of use. Check out my other videos for details on those.

Good job! Great investment that will payoff in the long run. Side note: If you would idle your tractor down instead of running it full throttle, you can operate your loader a lot smother and save fuel.

Oh ya buddy can you say”got wood” nice pile ya got there! I’m thinking the ibcs are a good idea especially if ya can through yer split logs right in. I use about 2 cords here in the Sf Bay Area. It doesn’t get below freezing very often. Now a days there are folks going around ticketing homes that use firewood on spare the air days. You have to prove you don’t have a heater installed in your home. If the heater is broken ya get a ticket cuzz you should have fixed it and not burned wood. So crazy here in the Bay Area. Thanks for sharing a good idea with the rest of us. Have a good one buddy

Hello Sandy, I had a VW diesel for about ten years. If you have trouble starting your diesel in cold weather, use this little trick. Turn on your ignition to heat up your glow plugs 4 to 6 times until they are really hot and then your tractor should fire right up. Regards, Edgar

Nice video . That is a super great price you got on those IBC cages . I would have bought as many as I could . Just a thought here . Mike at Out Doors With The Morgans cut 2 rails down from the top on the front side . This way it's easier to put the wood in and you can stack the wood nicely to get more in the tote . Also easier to get the wood . The totes are still sturdy because he delivers the wood that way at times and gets the empty totes back when they are empty . A full tote with the wood stacked in a nice way can be very heavy but I think your tractor can handle the weight with no problems .

Henry Rodgers that’s a good idea. I was worried about how strong they’d be after cutting but if others have done it I’m sure I’ll be fine. I may try and pickup more of these totes at that price if I end up short. Thanks for watching

Good day Sandy your making it hard for me to pick a tractor with out a cab lol. I’m sure you enjoy your new firewood container and when you spill it and put the wood straight in your containers it will be nice and faster

Denis D any tractor is a good tractor. The main reason I wanted the cab was for slow blowing. The fun of having snow hitting my face when it’s -30 Celsius out sold me when I was at the dealers haha

Thanks for the video Sandy. I am considering using them as well. I like Morgan's ideal of cutting an opening in one side which allows you to reach in. Leaving them like that might be a problem when picking the firewood out in the winter especially when it gets down near the bottom.

Thanks for watching and glad you’ve enjoyed them. I’ve been over to your side of the pond before visiting London and it’s quite busy but I still find it beautiful. I love the architecture over there. Another time I’ll have to visit some other spots around the UK.

Hey I've just started doing this too. Makes it easier to move things around. Do you get the liners with the cages? If you do you can cut them on the diagonal and use them as the roof.

How do you get the logs out of the crates? Do you have to pull them out through the gaps one by one?
