A quick update on de-rusting the old tuning condenser (capacitor) using citric acid/water and getting it reinstalled on the chassis in addition to the antenna coil after reconditioning... and validating performance using my LC Tester circuit below.

In addition, check out my earlier video and others where I introduce the Simplex, model PB mini-cathedral dual-band receiver I acquired about nine years back that's been in storage. The seller at the time told me the radio was from a family in the Charleston, SC area; other than that, I don't have any other information on the history of the receiver with the exception of the Simplex factory was located in Philadelphia, PA then later moved to Sandusky, OH where the company was purchased by Philco and the plant was closed shortly after.

Thank you Doug, I’m slowly getting back to it. I got real sick back in early January and shortly after my mother-in-law passed unexpectedly, then both of my parents were hospitalized at the same time; they are both back home now, so the last few months have been busy handling… Thanks again for your kind words and I hope this finds you doing well. Best, Don

Thank you Jim. Some life issues since the first of year has had me sidelined. Hope to wrap up on the chassis soon and transition to the cabinet before summer gets here. Best, Don

The question that always preys on my mind in rust treatments like this is, "how long was it in the citric acid/ultrasonic cleaner?" And thanks for the video. Cap looks great.

Thanks for watching. No set time as it depends on the amount of rust. Citric acid works best for surface rust. For the power transformer housing, it took 2 days for one section and the other 4 days. The IF cans took less than 1 day. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your kind words. Best, Don

Do you find you have to treat the metal parts with anything after cleaning with citric acid? I recently did some steel speaker grilles, and they would start to form a fine rust coating within minutes after being in the atmosphere
