Super fun video! 72 was a good year. I wore a school uniform so all of my casual clothes came from Sears Roebuck. I now have the Nair commercial stuck in my head.

Thanks for watching! I loved that Nair commercial and yes, a great little jingle that's hard to get out of your head 😊

I spotted at least 6 patterns I sewed in the 70s. The first one was a lined vest and pants my grandma helped me make for the first day of 7th grade. The vest was gold velvet with gold buttons and the pants were a textured brown double knit - my school colors. Years later, I was wearing the vest and got poked by a pin in the edge! Oops! We missed one! Haha! I also spotted a skirt from 8th grade home ec and hip hugger elephant bell bottoms. I made those in vertical striped fabric of green, blue, black and white. What a fun walk down memory lane. Thanks so much for sharing this and I got a little emotional, too. Sweet memories.

Oh I'm so glad you went for that walk and shared your past memories with me. Didn't we all have fun ? I think the 70's was a fantastic decade and wouldn't change anything about it. How lucky were we to have mom's and grandma's that loved us, sewed for us and made sure we looked nice during our school years. Do you have any outfits that she packed away for you ? My mom saved a couple lined vests and swing skirts she made me. Every now and them I'll open up the cedar chest and look at them. Emotional ? I almost started crying in the video later on..........I'm such a baby when it comes to my memories. Gee willikers; I don't think I'll ever change though. Thanks so much for sharing and watching ! xoxo Barbie

@@NellieandRuthDesigns I shared your video on social media also since I have friends from school there. I do have some clothes, fabric pieces, and a few patterns that have been saved from back then. All fun to pull out and reminisce. In some of my school pictures I'm wearing dresses grandma made. And I smiled when you mentioned corduroy jumpers because she made me quite a few of those over the years. I don't have pictures though.

@@olderendirt Oh, you're so sweet and yes, corduroy jumpers with pretty little wings at the shoulders. Love it all and thanks so much for sharing. I'm sure others would love to take the walk we have !! xoxo Barbie

All good memories for sure ! Thanks so much for joining in on the fun and commenting. We were truly blessed, weren't we having talented mom's to dress us so nicely. I still love to go into the fabric section of stores and look at all the wonderful materials, the counter books have changed so much though, I won't even open them up to take a peek. xoxo Barbie

Loved hearing your great memories of the fashion your mom made for you. I’m older and was not a participant in the mini skirts and bell bottoms, as I was already working in a conservative bank environment. In fact, the bank did not know how to handle the short skirts that did not fit into their image. Remedy: uniforms! We had the choice of a few polyester pantsuits that could be mixed and matched. 🤭 I think the seventies fashion was made for the “youngsters.” The Simplicity counter book is a treasure.

Linda .. I am so happy to hear 'your' memories ! Yes, my friends mom and neighbor worked for the bank as a teller during our middle and high school years and she loved short skirts. It all came crashing down on her but sported them on weekends and nights. Such fun memories and good times. Today's fashions do not compare to the 60's and 70's. I so wish they'd come back but I'm dreaming. Thanks so much for watching, joining in on the fun and taking taking a special trip down memory lane !! (Barbie xo)

Wow…fun trip down memory lane! My mom also made all my clothes and as she ran a yarn shop out of our home, also knitted my sweaters,vests and hats! You never had to worry about wearing the same thing as your friends! Did you have “Go-go” boots? 😀 definitely wore those with the big wide belts and “poor boy” sweaters! We were lucky to have such talented moms!
@NellieandRuthDesigns3 жыл бұрын
Nancy, no go-go boots but loved them all, especially the ones my brothers girlfriend's wore ! My mom also knitted and sewed, even little slippers with the pom poms on top ! My thing was the wide suede belts with long fringe, very very wide legged bell bottom pants and flower power floppy brimmed hats. Oh my, how cool were we !! Yes, we were truly blessed that we had talented, loving moms !! Thanks so much for watching and joining in. xoxo

Hello Tina ! Thank you very much for stopping by to take a look. So many fond memories and a wonderful time in our history. Sounds like we are the same age and we both loved the style back than. I think our generation was truly blessed !

Such great memories you stirred up!! My older sisters wore all of these fashions, too. My two oldest sisters made their own clothes but our mom sewed for my other sister and me. And the expensive sweater you talked about reminded me of the story of my brother spending an entire week’s pay on an Izod sweater when he was in high school 😂😂😂, our mom was so mad!! She’s 90 and is still sewing for me, by the way!! Thanks for such a wonderful trip down memory lane!!

Oh Missi what wonderful memories, l love hearing about others sewing adventures with their mom's. God Bless your mom for still being able to use her eyes. My mom lost her vision when she was 90 and suffered terribly........she loved her crafts. I love the story about your brother LOL... my dad would always call me over with a psst when he knew I was walking up street to shop and once in a while, and only once in a while he'd pass a $20 bill to me; without my mom knowing. She didn't want me spending money on clothes like that as well !!! Thanks so much for watching, sharing and joining in on that trip down memory lane ! xoxo Barbie

I did NOT have a pair of clogs, but my friends did. I thought they were too bulky-looking.

I had a pair but was very picky as to what they looked like. I must say, I did like them ........ I also had a couple pairs of Dr. Scholls too, they were great once the blisters healed 🤣🤣 believe it or not, they still sell them ......... hmmmm 🤔 summers coming 🤣🤣 but at my age I'd probably trip in them and break a hip 🫨
@chris22043 Жыл бұрын
@@NellieandRuthDesigns I lived in Dr. Scholes every summer. I bought a pair in my 40's, for nostalgia reasons, and they were very uncomfortable. The hard wood doesn't bother a teen with a nice layer of fat to cushion the blow, but def. not for older women!
