This by far the clearest explanation of the contrast wheels I have seen. Thank you. I am just getting started with colour correction/grading and your channel is great.

This is lovely. Should be one of the first things you learn when starting grading, but this is the first time I've seen it.

I've been so intimidated by the controls and terminology in Davinci up to now. This video helped me get a clear perspective on what its actually doing. Incredibly helpful! Thank you 🙏

Thank you Cullen! Your videos are great. I have a question: I have activated "use S-curve for contrast" in the general options, so when I increase the contrast control an S-curve is formed. What do you think about this? Is that just another way to edit the contrast in different ways or does this method have any disadvantages?

Thank you. How do you convert between "stops" and Offset Control units? Is there a one to one relationship?

Great videos! One question: when working in ACES, the waveform of a ramp (as in your examples in this video) behaves differently with lift and gain. It curves instead of keeping the straight diagonal. Is this because of the way things work in ACES? I have seen people uses a pair of transform nodes to grade in 709 space, so the lift and gain work as you showed, but is that really the right way to go? Maybe in ACES we learn to work with the way Lift and Gain work? Or am I totally missing something?

To partially address my own question, I've found I can use curves, and anchors on the curve, to target areas with the same (and of course better!) precision that I was accustomed to when using the LGG wheels in an unmanaged or Rec709 timeline. But I would still like to understand why the Lift and Gamma operate differently in ACES space. I am thinking it must be the more film-like operations under the hood? One poster said, at least it prevents milky blacks! In a straight comparison of ACES cct and RMC (with all input, timeline space and output transforms the same) I find ACES has a more pleasingly higher contrast, feeling of color separation and slightly cooler look. Perhaps this is the "RMT" part of ACES? Anyway, thanks for all the great insight!
