I am 62 and that quote hit home with me because recently I have wondered "what is the point of my life?" I have raised my children and they are self sufficient and my grandchildren are 12 and 14 so they are pretty self sufficient too. I have been married 43 years and though we love each other and have a good marriage , we have separate interests. I mean when he comes home from work and asks how my day was, HOW DO I GET EXCITED ABOUT DOING 2 LOADS OF LAUNDRY AND DISHES AND MAKEING DNNER and make it sound enticing?? I will light a candle and try to do better tomorrow

It’s about a change of attitude. It’s when we choose to be either angry or grumpy when we wake up or choosing joy and excitement about what the day will unfold. I am allergic to flowers as in the scent of them, a bouquet is overpowering for me, but I can cut off a flower and have a very short stem and place in a teacup of water and when I look at it it makes me smile; or I will buy myself or my husband some outrageous t-shirt we wouldn’t have worn in our 30’s but at 61 and 64, we are becoming more adventurous in some areas like a weird t-shirt. Our purpose in life is just not to love our families and to a point ourselves, but serve others- maybe look at volunteering to hold babies in a NICU, teach reading in your local jail (I did that for a year and it was amazing how thirsty the men and women were to be able to read!), volunteer at a local school to tutor or be a teacher’s aide, or start a cooking class at a local women’s shelter or YMCA or Girls and Boys Club or at your church. You are 62 and you absolutely have life skills you can share with those who haven’t gotten there or have never been taught to do. I plan to retire next year and I have a list of things to do to get me out of the house at least 1-2 times a week and part of that is helping my community somehow. You can do this!

I had triplet daughter & I remember my grandmother was visiting me. I was saying how there is always fingerprints on my door wall and crumbs on my floor no matter how much I cleaned them. My girls are now about to be 28 yrs old and my husband & I miss them being little all of the time. There is beauty in the practical and the mess. You are truly beautiful inside and out. Believe me, I got emotional right with you. I am struggling with slowing down and not worrying about the small stuff. I'm not very mobile right now, I have to get around the house with a walker. I was worrying about all of my Fall decor and the house looking perfect. This is my 3rd replacement, 2 hips and one knee. I literally never stopped but after this next surgery I'm definitely keeping that quote in mind. Our home is built on love and the memories we make in it, not by perfect vignettes and everything always perfect. My sweet husband went to the basement and brought up 1 bin with florals and a few pumpkins bc he felt so bad for me. He brought me the crocks and vases and I sat and arranged them. He put the pumpkins where I said and you know what, it looks so nice. I don't need all the "stuff" I own. I just can't do all this anymore. The crossing guard on my corner actually walked up to my house last June to ask me if I ever stop, she sees me always wiping down the railings on our wrap around porch and cleaning the furniture out there and scrubbing the porch so it's always perfect. I can't anymore! Sorry for my long rant but this video really hit home with me. Your home is so warm, cozy and blessed. I love it! You are very blessed and entering the best chapter of your life. Genevieve the end of this video really touched me and you are so sweet at this stage and don't even apologize for the pregnancy hormones because they are getting you ready for motherhood and a deeper connection to a human being than you ever thought possible! You absolutely must slow down and take the time to enjoy every moment with that baby because they grow up so fast and if you get too busy with the little things you will someday find out the little things were really the big things. Every time you said "baby girl" I just wanted to cry because my first baby was a girl and we lost her in 2020 at the age of 35 and while i thought I made every effort to not miss a thing, because I worked, I most definitely missed a lot of time with her that I would give my life to have the chance to do it all over again. I'm 64 n life has changed since I will be needing a knee replacement soon. I gave all my fall decor to one of my daughters that loves to decorate. Genevieve, first, your home is amazing. Second, finding contentment in your own home is key to loving your home, no matter where you are at - just moving into a fixer upper, living in your home for 30 years , not comparing your home to other homes. The Pinterest remark had me saying “yes!, right on!”, I may look at Pinterest to get ideas for a decorating project but I don’t strive to have “that” home or have Home Edit pantry- our house is our home and it should reflect us and our lifestyle, not someone else’s idea of what a home should look like- real life does not really translate to “perfection” all the time unless one is over the top OCD about it. I am 61, we are empty nesters with 2 active Labs and grandchildren who are in and out of our house and a son and his family who may show up at breakfast one morning from the guest bedrooms as we didn’t hear them come in late the night before (they live 3 hours away and just spontaneously show up)- it gives us joy that our home is still a place where our kids feel free to just pop in and want to be and thankful that we can roll with it 😅! There is nothing too precious in our home that a grandchild can’t reach for yet what we have makes sense to us, creates a comfortably styled home and reflect us, not Pinterest or an IG photo shoot. Thanks for being real!

You made me laugh out loud at the end! Your house looks soothing, homey, and just perfect to bring a new baby into. You have made some great changes. One of the problems with having a love for decorating, thrifting, and old things is it's a cycle. You go through a phase of collecting, then decorating with the collections, and then it becomes too much and you edit it down and then the cycle starts over. Been there many times myself. But decorating and collecting seems to be something that doesn't go away! I love what you said at the end about celebrating the little things like morning coffee.
