SimpliSafe vs Ring Alarm security system: Which is best?

I got the ring alarm system about 2 weeks ago. We love it. My parents have simplisafe and they love that. So I guess you can't go wrong with either of them

I think you're right. They both seem good. I like the track record of SimpliSafe and the fact that is less obtrusive than Ring. SimpliSafe costs a little bit more for monitoring but the system seems to have some advantages when you really look at all the accessories and their capabilities. Best wishes.

Biggest difference for me is extending the range I cant get all the sensors to connect on the damn simplisafe system because they dont have range extenders

I purchased both Ring and Simplisafe. Comparing all the options for home security was the hardest part of the whole process. Installed the Ring first...smooth install, very smooth. Then, based mostly on special pricing and I don't know what else, removed and packed up the Ring and installed the Simplisafe. The install was glitchy due to the fact my router was broadcasting in 5g. I had to change router settings to 2.4mhz because that's all the Simplisafe recognizes. Seemed odd but apparently it works better through walls and floors? News to me but, ok. There were a couple of other times I was on my laptop looking things up and one phone call to customer service. The glitches were early on and then finished up smoothly. After an attempted break-in last week, I slept soundly last night and it was worth the effort. Ring and Simplisafe are probably equal in terms of quality but watch for special pricing for each. I ordered the Ring from Amazon and it was a refurb. Still the Simplisafe with special pricing ended up being the better deal.

I think the biggest selling point between the two for me is Ring can be more tightly integrated with Amazon Echo/Alexa and other amazon home automation products since Amazon owns Ring.

I went with Simplisafe. Cosmetically I was not about to have sensors all over my doors and windows that say ring in every room everywhere I look.

I'm pretty sure you have to pay to have a cellular connection in both cases and it's included in the monitoring fee, but this could vary by country. I had some issues with simplisafe having to replace several sensors under warranty, but they took care of it and even replaced some sensors out of warranty, and that's with a 3 year warranty. I think I even had to replace the base, but they also offered an upgrade to the cellular modem as it came with T Mobile and I was able to upgrade to Verizon. Hopefully their third gen system is more reliable. Also, you have to replace the keypad batteries every 8 months or so, but this is no longer the case for the extra sirens, so keep that in mind. For Ring, the keypad can be powered by an AC adapter so you don't need to re-charge the battery unless you opt not to use the AC adapter. Being able to have the front door open while arming is a plus for SS though as well as being able to disarm during countdown without having to enter the passcode on exit. Ring allows for self monitoring without paying, but it looks like SS also allows for self monitoring via the app without paying now.

Thanks for the video. I installed Simplisafe in my entire house and love it. However I didn’t even know about Ring until recently. Simplisafe pro monitoring is $25 a month and Ring is $10 a month. I’m gonna return my entire Simplisafe system and go with Ring. That’s $200 savings a year (Ring let’s you pay $100 for one year).

Exactly. I found these comparisons while seeking help with setting up my Simplisafe. My package will go back into the box today. Simplisafe lost me with the monitoring fee, and apparently, the Ring smartphone app offers a lot more.

Ring price doesn't include cellular, which is a must in my opinion. All a crook has to do is walk around your house and cut the internet/cable wire.

One MAJOR disadvantage with Ring is that when a sensor is triggered there is no alert sent as a text message to phones....only email. For example, water/freeze sensor is triggered by a leaking water heater...user does not immediately get a text message on phone...only 12 hours later discovers the problem when reading emails.

@OSAN yep, app offers a ton of features that the simplisafe one doesnt include. some free features on the ring system are paid features on the simplisafe system. just recently returned my simplisafe system for a ring one.

Simply safe security system has free data if you lose internet. Ring charges $10 every 3gb of data. But Ring cameras look so much better so we choose Ring lol
